Only name I wouldn't have minded is Namestiknov for a 4th, or DeMelo last week for a 3rd. Outside of that prices have been too high, and this team has proven enough this year to be moving top end pieces.

"lack of activity" for the Flames could refer to not selling either. Lots of high prices being paid makes a bubble team like Calgary a prime seller, especially for a guy like Brodie.
I'd honestly be upset if Brad bought instead of selling today. The market should tell you which way to go if you're on the fence. If he can't read the market effectively, that bothers me.

There should be a clause at TSN where Button is not allowed to comment on the Flames!

Even on that though...with Gio, Hamonic, and Valimaki out longer term still I'm not sure how they move Brodie without it looking like them throwing in the towel on the season.
If those two d-men were healthy then sure I'd want them to be selling one of Brodie or Hamonic (preferably Hamonic) but with the injuries it's not really an option.
It sucks but really the best outcome here is to just stand pat and let this core have one last shot together before re-tooling at the draft.

Anytime now Flames.
There is an opportunity to improve them team, either now or for the future. All I ask is you have some kind of plan and execute on it.

I think if someone is willing to overpay for an expiring asset, you move him, regardless of playoff position or a single season. Someone wants to give you a 1st+ for Brodie? Do it without hesitation. You have to think long term on days like this.

Any chance anyone would take an injured Gio today?

Feels like the Flames are an afterthought at this deadline, rightfully so. I hoped this year would be different.

So this leaves Dallas, Calgary and Rangers to be the only teams not to make a deal yet? Even though you could classify Krieders extension as just that

The Flames usually feel like an afterthought at the TDL. I mean unless Fantenberg acquisitions, Burke not making trades due to his ego, and Tim Jackman extensions are your jam.

That's Flames, respect the players.
But on a fun idea list a hockey trade to say TO where he is from would garner a king's ransom and he would waive to go home.
Kapanen, Kerfoot, Sandin or Timothy, a 1st and who know what else you could get. TO needs to make playoffs and win a couple of rounds. Pressure is on.
Asset management.

I think you have to honestly look at what the Flames were really going to do in the playoffs - for 2 reasons
For one, and TSN even just touched on this - we do have Valimaki returning as well. Hamonic, Gio and whatever Valimaki can bring are big factors in the Flames doing anything in the playoffs. So whatever we sell on defence isn't the final look going forward
But secondly, besides a big deadline shakeup... this team has not been playing like cup contenders. Nothing they can add to this roster, even with adding everything I mentioned and selling no-one, will make this team a contender in the playoffs.
So if they can sell a bit to help next year... I don't know that this writes off the Flames entirely any more than the standings already do. They're still in the 'make the playoffs and anything can happen' status of teams no matter if they have Brodie or not. Add those 3 defencemen back to what's left and you still have enough depth to be whatever this team was going to be anyway
But doing nothing will definitely be a really bad move today - for this year and next. This team isn't in 'lose a UFA for nothing because of the push', nor 'team should be good enough to compete' mode

of all the trades made so far today and in the last few days, the only one that I'm sorry the Flames missed out on is Trochek.
All other trades are insiginifcant or way over priced (Pageau)
