He hasn’t lost a game in Regulation in 2020. 10-0-2
For being such a small player Yamamoto plays like he’s 6’3”. Hard on the puck always.

I have faith in Smith to crumble when it counts.
Yamamoto I’ll give you. I don’t mind him.

Chicago isn’t where they are by fluke or bad luck. They just aren’t that good. The Oilers upcoming McDavidless schedule is Tampa, Florida, Carolina, Boston, Minnesota, LA, Anaheim. The last 3 teams are the only teams who currently have less points than the Oilers and even Minny is doing better winning 7 of their last 10. I can’t see them getting out of that stretch with a better than .500 record.

Well yeah, but my point is one of the best teams in history loaded with HOF’s put up the current mark. And the Oilers are knocking on the door with 3 players who wouldn’t be on PP1 on most other teams. It’s bonkers how successful they are.

There are currently 6 teams from the last 3 seasons in the top 50 all time.
There has been a clear uptick in efficiency the last few seasons.
These two rule changes probably helped.
6. Selecting Face-Off Circles
Another offensive-line advantage will develop when coaches select which side they want the next face-off to commence following icing calls and at the start of man-advantage situations.
This will allow coaches, who are anticipating an offensive-zone face-off, opportunities to position their face-off specialists on the strong side of their sticks for puck drops.
7. Puck Out of Play
Instead of executing a face-off outside the blue line when a player skates into the offensive zone and subsequently causes a stoppage of play, new NHL rules call for the resumption of action to begin in the offensive zone.
That and the puck drop entry that every team uses now means the attacking team usually is always set up.
I remember it being fairly common for teams to occasionally spend the entire PP trying to set up a few years ago. It rarely happens now.

You know the Hawks are having a bad season when they can't even beat a McDavid-less Oilers team. Brutal.

The kid has been pressing, badly, lately. Also, Colliton keeps bouncing him from line to line, no continuity for him to work his way out of his slump.

Also, as far as the Oil getting more PPs than the 'Hawks, that isn't a bad thing, lately. The 'Hawks give up a TON of SH chances against. But, the tripping penalty on Toews that the the Oil ended up scoring on was a brutal call, that there was no excuse for.

3 each. But yah you would hope the linesman would say it was me, but I wonder what the rules are on something like that? Can the ref take it back after putting his arm up and stopping play?

The NHL is really getting to a point where they need to have a head official in a booth somewhere, who is connected by radio with the other officials.
When incidents like yesterday’s happens, the booth official can simply say, there’s no penalty there, and the game can resume with no penalty.
They could even be communicating in real time to review a play before blowing the play dead.

Advocated this for years. It's done in rugby - a harder game to manage IMO.

The percentage of calls that are made, that are clearly wrong, is much to high.
It’s not enough that the video official is a resource for the officials in the ice. The video booth official must be fully integrated into the reffing structure, and must be able to overrule calls on the ice, and even make calls that the on ice officials missed.

Smith went on runs in Calgary too. Usually getting wins in spite of his play. Frankly, the game yesterday was so easy for him it was ridiculous.
