Agreed. Don Hay and Greg Gilbert also stopped by to say "Hi".

Can someone explain to me why would Laviolette want to jump in the middle of a season with another team that hasn't lived up to expectations when he can collect his season's pay and assess teams that may be looking for a new head coach in the offseason from afar. I would imagine he would want to start fresh, have a training camp to get players accustomed to his systems. The Flames will get their chance to interview him in the offseason but I would caution fans from getting overly excited as Treliving didn't even bother interviewing Boudreau so it's not a given he's going to interview Laviolette as he seems to highly value past relationships and I don't know if there's a history between these two. I think Laviolette would be a good hire but Treliving hasn't shown to be a good evaluator of head coaches so what may look like a no brainer hire to us may not to him.

More than a month. All I know is that the team has gone 10-5-1 under Ward and potentially salvaged the season. So not exactly wasting anything at this point.

Ward has a much stronger record/reputation as an assistant...not to mention a stanley cup

The reality is the Flames may not be a desirable fit from Laviolette’s perspective for a variety of reasons. But from the Flames perspective, it should be a no-brainer and they’d be foolish not to at least pursue it.

And secretly whisper to Laviolette: "It's your job next season". Frankly, you'd be making a huge mistake not to.

Well "huge mistake" and "foolish not to" are both good descriptions of how the flames have handled coaching for a long time so I imagine they also take a pass here.

They really need to harness the Constanza method, and do the opposite of every natural instinct they have about coaching.

He even saved us from the oilers in '06. They have to get him.

I hope the Flames explore bringing him in. At least seeing if there is interest. Laviolette is a damn good coach.

Can they have both? Keep ward as an assistant/PK coach or something?

Is there any proof that the Flames owners won't pay big money for a coach?
There haven't been a lot of big names that became available at time when we were looking for a new coach. The ones that were available didn't necessarily want to come here. Management spends to the cap every year and pays for player buyouts when required, I've seen no evidence that they refuse to spend an extra million or two on coaching.

Why do so many people keep assuming he even *wants* to come here??

I think people are just saying Flames can't not take a run at him. It would be crazy (or cheap) not to take an actual competitive run.

Or Lavy can just sit back, and relax with full pay, until Seattle comes calling.

BT will take a run so that he can tell us all he came in 2nd place. "We were so close but he chose San Jose".

I think the Preds will hire DoBoer.

If the Flames miss the playoffs/lose in the first round I would definitely approve of Laviolette becoming our next coach.

Add me to the, "The Flames should hire Laviolette, but won't because they are too cheap" crowd. Flames always, always cheap out on coaching, super frustrating as a fan.
