10-4 edge in 5 on 5 high danger scoring chances is excellent hockey, and is usually rewarded. It wasn't last night.

I'm not convinced this Calgary team is a contender, and I think they won a few games they shouldn't have on that streak, but they walk out that same game as last night more often than not and they're money for a playoff spot.

Question: if this team isn’t a contender what is the point of just making the playoffs?

If the Flames are out in the first round again would you support a major overhaul this summer?

Because losers favour draft lotteries ahead of making the playoffs.

Because we have Dillon Dube, apparently.

I think it's actually the opposite.

We might not be good enough to be spending those type of picks/prospects for a guy that may only be here for 5 months.

Honestly, I hope we NEVER win the Conference or League standings during the regular season ever again.

This isn't a 'Blues' thing, but I'm less convinced now that that has any merit to winning the Cup. You need a hot team/consistent team at the RIGHT TIME, period. And the whole expectations going in as that much of a favourite seems to do The Flames especially no favours.

That's my take anyway, so honestly I'll be happy to see us make playoffs and hopeful if we go in reasonably hot vs. limping in (which is what we tend to do more often than not when we make it in).

I don't think the core as it stands works, so yeah I think there is change coming.

But they are what they are.

Playing better, a team that can do some damage if they get hot at the right time. Bottom line last night they played well enough to win, but couldn't finish. I'm just not one to get my gitch in a knot over games like that.

But in a 31 team league, I think you could out think yourself by having a must be a contender or retool mission statement. That sounds like a perpetual rebuild to me.

A top 10-12 with some luck in the draft and some good development can move up quickly, it's razor thin in margins.

Given Czarnik's alleged interest from teams around the league prior to his signing with Calgary, I wonder if he gets snapped up. Or is this another Drew Shore situation.

Too much cap to get snapped up now.

My gut would be he clears, and then probably gets traded.

Agreed, but even if he clears we get some cap relief

IMO, not a chance he gets claimed, small, almost 28, 8 goals in 62 games for us, 5 in 59 before us.. 1.25 Million.

Power play was a major disappointment again last night. Totally disorganized.

Just once we should get a power play goal when desperately needed.

I know I've seen it though couldn't cite a specifically example - and appears to be something very hard to look up.
But I recall it happening.

IIRC the blues did this last season. Trying to find the game.
