If Tre wouldn't give a first in this deal he better not for someone like Toffoli at the deadline.

Of course we could have paid it, but given the likelihood that Hall bolts in the summer or the cost to re-sign him is too high, yes, I think including players likc Mangiapane, Kylington, Phillips, etc., would be too much for the Flames.

Why? The Sharks sewered their season and many seasons to come by re-signing Karlsson.

The nice part about this trade is it sets the possible market for the next few trades. Hall went for not much. Buyer's market!

Yeah, Tree called himself out for being horse%#^* and he has yet again sat back while divisional rivals improve.
He hasn’t accomplished anything since the Hanifin/Lindholm trade.
I’m not sure why he thought it was such a brilliant idea to sink a 1st and two 2nds into a #4 defenceman but then pulls up short on actual high end talent.
If Hall didn’t want to sign an extension, then yeah - let ARZ blow their load on a rental...but if he extends in Arizona (which makes sense if he wants the 8th year), then yeah...I’m not too happy as a Flames fan.

Yeah everyone complained how much better the Sharks were after that trade when the reality is they got worse and that contract is a disaster. The Coyotes paid a lot for a rental. Maybe he helps them make the playoffs and win a round but maybe he doesn't.

Did you really think the Flames were going to pay that price for a guy that isn't willing to commit to signing with them? All the Coyotes are guaranteed is 2/3 of a season of Hall. If they miss the playoffs or don't get past the 1st round (not far fetched) the trade is a disaster.

Still think it's Vegas and Calgary in the drivers seat to win the Pacific but this pushes Edmonton down which is always hilarious.

Meh, I honestly think the Flames did good and dodged a bullet.Just not a good fit on the roster. Adding depth at a position just for the sake of adding talent will Billy can really mess things up.
Besides, I dont mind if the totes create a nice little push this year in the playoffs. Sure as hell beats Edmonton.
Yotes and their two fans deserve a nice reprieve from the horror that franchise has been since it inception. Save two or 3 seasons.

No, I’ve always said rental = bad. So if this is a pure rental, it’s awful.
If he re-signs though, it sucks for us - and Hall is financially motivated to re-sign as he can get that 8th year.
I’d pay two 1st round picks for 8.5 seasons of Taylor Hall.

...but we’ve been a horrid franchise for 40 years, save a handful of seasons.

Do we even have cap space for his inevitable $10MM AAV contract?

Yeah I agree with others that not landing Hall isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sure, it would've been nice, but there are other players out there who might make more sense and will likely be much cheaper:
- Eric Staal
- Jason Zucker
- Kyle Palmieri
- Tyler Toffoli
- Brandon Saad
etc.

What about the accompanying $85 million? He's really not that good of a player.
