For 95% of people, there's no such thing as "boots that fit in the first place". That was his point. A good bootfitter makes a massive difference. That said, I'm pretty agnostic about Lou's capability, personally, so I won't argue with the notion that he's overhyped.

Speaking of Ring, the Ring alarm system is on sale right now, too. I bought that in the summer and we love it. Here's my write-up from another thread. If you're considering a home alarm, I think this is way better than a traditional alarm - it's less expensive, too:

Had a quote from an alarm company for $50/month on a three-year term to redo the system, so $1800.

Another quote for $1200 for the hardware and installation, but unmonitored.

I decided to give a Ring Alarm Security System a try instead since I already have two of the doorbells and they are awesome.

I bought the 14-piece kit, which has two motion detectors, two control panels, range extender and covers eight windows/doors. Also bought eight more windows/door sensors, as well as the flood/freeze sensor. Total price for everything was $580, plus GST, so about half the price I was quoted to have the pros do it, and their quote didn't include covering my detached garage or a flood/freeze sensor, both of which I have with Ring.

Installation was easy. Took two hours. The app is super customizable and lets you change things instantly (as you'd expect).

I was already paying $6/month for my doorbells to have the cloud storage capabilities. With the alarm system, you pay $10/month to have it monitored, and it includes all the cameras, too, so it was kind of a no-brainer to just go to $10/month. There is also no contract. You don't need to have it monitored if you don't want.

With monitoring, you also get 3G back-up on the system and there is battery back-up as well. You can arm/disarm from your phone, which is handy if you have somebody going to your place you need to let in.

Overall, pretty neat. Only one day in so I can't comment much beyond that, but installation was easy, the interface is fantastic, the price is great, and everything seems of good quality.

Also, I said monitoring was $10/month - that's USD, FYI.

I've also added a fire and CO detector for $49. I've put flood/freeze sensors in every bathroom, under the fridge (we have water to the fridge), under the kitchen sink/dishwasher, and in the utility room. Pretty stoked on how safe everything is feeling.

A couple of weeks in with this system and we're loving it. It is such an insane upgrade from a traditional alarm. Honestly, the fire and flood monitoring are probably more important than burglar alarm, and I didn't have either one of those before. I know three people that have had floods in the last year alone - one was the fridge and the other two were bathrooms. A flood is so upsetting and stressful. This could save my bacon.
I was out on the weekend with my wife when my alarm rang and Ring called me. My kids were at home and my son had spilled a glass of water beside the fridge and triggered the flood sensor. Within seconds I was phoned by Ring in addition to an alert being sent to my phone. It's such a great system and that experience made me really confident in the sensors. I'd feel like my house was totally exposed now if not for the fire/smoke/CO/flood sensors. They are more important than the burglary sensors IMO.

Sorry I meant getting them fit 'right' at a ski shop the first time. (Ski Cellar, Ski West, etc.) I also don't care (see above: snowboader) but I just find his reputation funny.

Lou's customer: "I can't ski Saturday, I have to go get my boots fit again."
Other reputable ski shop customer: "Yeah, I'll come skiing on Saturday."

Yeah I think in the future I'd plan to pair it Sonos Ones. The last step would be the Sub but it's hard to swallow at that steep price.

So if I have a Google Home already, is an Echo show useless for me? Or does it do the same thing as a Echo Home but just has a display screen? Making my google home useless? Either way getting one for 15 bucks when I already planned to buy the Ring anyway seems stupid to pass up.

Yeah I have had good luck with Ski West.

That's a good point, I was considering one of those systems because you can currently get the 5 piece basic system with a free echo dot for 189 (normally 269). It just seemed like it would require some actual effort to set up and figure out, so I didn't pull the trigger (also my current exterior camera system is pretty beefy). But honestly just for the sensors, it might be worth it.

Well, the idea is that you put it in a different room from your google home. Like, say, by the bed. It functions well as a smart alarm clock. You can also play amazon prime video on it if you wanted to do that for some reason, or do video calls to anyone you happen to know who has a prime device. Just make sure you turn off drop-in video.

Hell, get it and if you don't want it I'll give you $20 for it.

Ya, Ski Cellar sold me the right boots that fit me, did a minor modification, and heat set them. They've been perfect, but I also have perfect feet. My friend used to visit Lou several times a year. Sounds sucky.

And.. cheap head phones for the gym, noise cancelling is all I really care about. 2 hens are always clucking on the elliptical every single damn day when I am on the treadmills in front of them.

Also to add, I am looking for a 1440p 144 hz monitor to match my new gaming rig.

Yeah that was basically my point.

If you like Lou's or not it doesn't really matter. I for one have had horrid service at Ski West and Abom for boots. In my experience they've masked the problem instead of fixed it, which results in punching the boot in the wrong spots and exacerbating the problem eventually. This also seems wildly dependent on who you actually see in the store. A family member has a pair from Abom and still loves them almost a decade later.

But yes, my general point was don't buy boots on price point - buy them on fit from a capable boot fitter. Whoever that may be. If they don't measure your foot (regardless of what size you say you normally take), and at least do a basic shell fit - walk out and find another store or sales rep.

I'm looking to get a Sunshine Village Ski card. I heard last year they went for $79. Has anyone heard anything for this year?
It's currently on sale for $99 (not a black Friday deal)

Still looking for a deal on an iPhone 11 if anyone has seen any in the past few days.

Black Friday deals go into next week, correct?

I assume it's too soon after release to find any discount at all on Pokemon Sword/Shield?

They were $89 on Halloween. Not like that helps, mind you.

Says Freesync in the title but it's since had Gsync support added as well
