Default Akim Aliu accuses Bill Peters of racial slurs during rookie year in Rockford

Oh man this season...

I don’t really know how the team should approach this, can’t go around firing people over one allegation from years ago imo. Any player with a hate on for a past coach could make #### up. Still if it’s true idk, not good

Well, if they fire him over it, so be it. If they keep him on and it gets proven truthful later down the road, that's a massive bullet to eat. I hope it's not true but like others have said Aliu has been pretty open about his life in hockey. Laws were made off his and others statements. So for him to post that, I lean towards believing him.

But I also struggle with penance here. Can one be forgiven of his sins and keep his career and job? Does he deserve it if it's true?

Unlike Me Too these incidents sound like they would have occurred in public and should be verifiable. I don’t see what Akim has to gain here by lying. Will be an interesting few days.

The biggest allegation in my opinion is the claim that Akim called him out on it and was buried in the ECHL because of it.

If true, he has to be canned. If not true or can't be proven, then Peters is kinda screwed anyways since this will always hang over his head.

No good way out of this one. I really hope it isn't true but my gut tells me Aliu wouldn't just make something like this up out of the blue. Ugh.

While the allegations need to be proven, and it was from 11 years ago, this is yet another hit at sports and possibly specifically hockey culture. There is no emotional intelligence at any level. It's all about results and getting people like this who, if true, are just complete #######s get a chance because they push for results without considering others feelings. I get that sports requires guys more headstrong, but man this really pisses me off if true. Really speaks to how bad a human some of these people can be between Babcock firing and now this. What does it also say about the spineless media who probably knew about it but didn't report because of their special relationships with people? What a cluster####.

Babcock is/was Peter's mentor. Thus alluding to similar distasteful tactics to motivate players. But this accusation by Aliu has nothing to do with motivating a player. Just some straight N bomb dropping. And similar to Commie and Babs, coaches willfully going out of their way to bury a player they dont like.except Peter's accuser makes is racially motivated. I THINK. It definitely can be spun this way.

I get the sense we're hearing only the tip of the iceberg as it pertains to Babcock. These guys were apparently the same people, and of course both teams have been playing horrible... you're going to have a lot of associations whether they are true or not now.

Honestly, this could be a get out of jail free card for Treliving. I’m sure he is not pleased with the season so far but the optics of firing his 3rd head coach look terrible. Especially after such a good regular season last year but if Peters did use this language, he deserves to be fired. Cherry was fired for bigotry only the language he used was far less inflammatory than what Peters is accused of. The team has looked like garbage, save for maybe 3 or 4 games, and Peters could be the problem. If he’s fired and the team continues to look bad, then you have concrete evidence that there’s a problem with the roster and you can try to address that in the summer.

No not at all. This is not the way any GM would want to fire the coach he picked out and hired. I see no way Treliving would ever look back and say; "that worked out for the best".
