First Line Centre
|
Flames did well for the most part against a very difficult opponent. The Blues seemed to me to control the play for the most part. The Flames momentum in the third was encouraging to see.
Officiating continues to be a complete travesty.
Tkachuk/Backlund/Mangiapane was their best forward line and the only one that could generate some momentum in the Blues end outside of the Jankowski line now and then.
None of the defensive pairings worked particularly well. I can't believe playing Stone against the cup champions was an idea the coaching staff had.
The need for another 2 way puck dominant top 6 player (ideally centre) was as obvious tonight as it was in last season's playoffs.

Johnny does seem to look like he lacks incentive or drive to do/be more than he has been as a player. Tries a lot of the same moves most nights.
I still remember the electrifying plays he made as a rookie after that one media guy said he hasn't earned the moniker Johnny Hockey. He was completely unpredictable in his creativity and evasive in tight checking situations. But he was clearly driven by the new, bigger stage of hockey he was playing on then.
Dude needs the fire lit underneath him again. That doesn't mean the odd breakaway goal like the other night. It means that dominance with the puck that he once exhibited. The Flames need that Johnny to win a championship.

Don't blame Brodie for the PK against. Blame Johnny for getting stripped.
Or maybe credit Jaden Schwartz for making a great play to strip Johnny.

Alright I'm calmed down.
All I'll say is I want to see Mangiapane get an extended look on the 2nd line, and keep Hanifin and Andersson together

Thought that it was a tough game to come back in, but hey they battled hard and did it. Chances were tough to come by tonight, and that’s not surprising considering how well structured the Blues are.
Johnny is looking extremely lazy. He just isn’t moving his feet and he’s relying heavily on his teammates to do the hard work. He needs to start moving his feet and get engaged because he’s floating out there most of the time.
Maybe we need to get Guy to attend more games because he was flying against the Devils

Johnny has not been himself all season. Skating doesn’t look as strong, doesn’t look dynamic with the puck. Looks like he’s timid and happy to just shoot the puck from the left side.
For the team as a whole just take that point and now get some rest and practice time in. After what was a crazy schedule they now only have 1 game in the next 6 days, which should allow them to rest up and get some good practices.

Didn't like the effort for most of the game..the Flames allowed the Blues to totally dictate how the game was being played. Couldn't get to the greasy areas, mostly played on the perimeter, chucked the puck around like it was a hot potato and just generally no weight to them.
They just can't play heavy hockey.
And Johnny...needs to sit for a few games. Rittich obviously very disappointed after putting in another very good performance.

Blues 3 Flames 2 I'm sad edition
Thought it was a good game by everyone not on the top line. Lines 2-4 are trending upwards but the top line has been all over the place all year and that is worrying. Hopefully Johnny can figure it out, seems to be in his own head recently, just some odd decisions. I have faith he will get back on track.

Peters should have changed gaudreau and tkachuk for the bigger teams that play a shutdown style it is too easy for teams like st Louis to shutdown our top line

Unfortunately as soon as that penalty was called in OT, we all knew how this was gonna end. First line was pretty bad all night. They need to be much better if we want to beat teams like the Blues. We still have a ways to go before we're considered a true contender, but we're close. Probably just a couple of pieces away IMO.
Anyway, I'm happy with how the team has responded lately after a rough start to the season. That was a fun game tonight against a very tough team.

Flawless reason.

She is his aunt, genius.
Blaming Brodie instead of Gaudreau on that play says a lot about how a fan understands the game IMO.

This is the main reason I want to see Tkachuk get some time with Lindholm as his centre

Meh... 20 games in, guy just doesn't look himself at all.
You're not going to bench him, peters has been kind in grouping his discontent against the team's "veterans", but i see no harm in saying something to call him out, at least a little bit.
People blaming Brodie have me really confused.
