Yeah the recapture penalty being already signed contracts retroactively was always a joke (Even though it's hurting our rivals now).
Teams found a loophole and took advantage of it - can't go back and penalize them for it when it wasn't a rule.
I also think they need a better solution than how LTIR works today. Something like a "Career Ending Injury List" that you can place a player on, he still gets his money, and he doesn't count towards the cap anymore in the offseason (biggest issue with LTIR).
Injury needs to be validated by independent non-team doctors for the player to be eligible.

I remember watching Luongo in the QMJHL playoffs back in his last year in junior.
Bathurst beat us 4 games to 1. In an odd twist of fate Luongo went 4-0 against us, because technically Phillipe Ogza let in the game winning goal in the 7-6 loss with Luongo giving up 6/7. A preview of things to come, either lights out or lighted up.
I remember chatting with one of my best friends, and him saying "That's a future Vezina winner right there." While he didn't win, he did get the nomination three times (2004, 2007, and 2011) with Pearson (now Lindsey) nominations in 2004 and 2007, as well as a Hart nomination in 2007.
A truly remarkable player.
Shame he never won a cup (with Florida, screw Vancouver) he was deserving of one.
Enjoy retirement 7uongo!

I've always had a soft spot for Luongo. Couldn't stand it when he was with the Canucks, but man was I stoked when he replaced Brodeur as the starter in the 2010 Olympics. He's a great goalie with a great heart. And most importantly, his Twitter feed is hilarious.
Enjoy retirement Lu!

Unfortunately, he probably gets special consideration because he'd be the first real Panther to go in. There are players and builders associated with the Panthers in the HHOF, but none of them are people you automatically associate with the Panthers.
|
Yeah, I think he had an elite career overall, and had great longevity, but had a tough time winning Vezina's playing much of his prime at the same time as Brodeur. Never won a cup despite making it to the finals, and never won a Conn Smythe. Won internationally, but rarely as the go to guy.
I think it will be interesting to see how the voters see him. I could make the case either way.

You should CP from your laptop, in a Coffee House. There’s an idea, for your solo missions in Calgary.

Third all-time in wins, but that's mostly because he's second all-time in games played.
If you go by points percentage, he's 35th out of 71 among all goalies with at least 500 NHL regular season games played. By straight win percentage, he's 29th.
There's something to be said for longevity, but I don't know if that should be enough to get into the Hall.
I'd put Luongo in the same category as Cujo. If they used the same standard for goalies that they do for skaters, they should be in the Hall, but as long as guys like Vernon and Barrasso aren't even in the conversation, they're obviously not using the same standard as they use for skaters.

I think I very much want to CP less after this weird disaster... lord knows that'll make people happy.
Anyway. Funny how Luongo didn't thank the team that drafted him in his farewell letter... wonder if there's any lingering animosity there

He was on such god awful Panther teams it's hard to use points percentage against him. Most nights he'd have 50 saves and that's the average shots on goal per game were 22-30.

Luongo is third all-time in wins. Even if the shootout era has dramatically cheapened the value of a W for a goalie, he's going to be first ballot HHOF.

The NHL approved a guy who suddenly became too allergic to his equipment once he was not making big dollars, pretty sure their standards are pretty f'n low.

It's funny how one little post resulted in eight more that solely existed to ridicule it. For someone intent upon reducing posting, apparently, you might be a little more concerned about that. Or does that conflict with your narrative?
Buzz off. I don't care.

The $2.2M in additional dead cap space is probably going to provide better value to the Canucks than any junk Benning signs this offseason. This is a team that just paid $15M last season to get 20 goals out of Eriksson, Beagle, Sutter, and Schaller.

Luongo has a Jennings and an Olympic gold medal. Also, first goalie to be named team captain.
Dunno if that's a HoF trophy case. Chris Osgood has more hardware.

I see him as Hall of Famer after the career he has had, but who knows how the committee looks at it.
I wonder what the future holds for Luongo. Would love for him to join the media or start a podcast.
