So he was the 6th American goalie drafted in 2019.
He is one of 4 in the running for a spot on the WJC team. One of those 4 wasn't even drafted.
Wolf has a real shot of making the WJC team

Had to keep taking breaks to collect myself during reading the Burnside story in the Athletic about Wolf and co at the draft.

Can't wait to chant "Wolf" with the crowd after he makes a save at the Saddledome or the new arena.

I genuiely excited we have Wolf. Maybe the best value pick in the draft. I always marveled at how explosive Parsons is in net, wolf is just lightning and precise. That highlight pack shows how fast he is but he doesnt seem to lose his net like Parsons does.
My bet is on those two in 5 year owning the Flames net.

I just hope that he stays healthy. The goaltending prospects have had terrible luck with injuries.
Maybe as a smaller guy, he's less likely to get injured, who knows.
I love the pick though.
It seems like a lot of the scholastic players end up doing quite well. If I recall correctly, both Dougie Hamilton and Connor McDavid won that award.

One team howls for a goal, the other team howls for a save.

Similar to how some guys can have 90 goal seasons in junior and not even make the NHL, it's a bit disingenuous to call this an amazing pick and have him penciled in as the future starter already based solely on junior stats. Goalies in particular are almost impossible to predict based on junior stats alone -- look at the WHL Goalie of the Year award: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Del_Wilson_Trophy
They all had amazing stats too and there's only a handful that have become NHL regulars (and most of those were high draft picks).
So, just saying... maybe temper your expectations to avoid disappointment.

I like it not because of the stats, but because as far as 7th rounders go this guy seems like terrific value. I'd hate it as a 1st or 2nd round pick but in the 7th this is a great get
Tempering expectations to avoid disappointment can be said about every draft pick ever outside of the top 2.

Not sure if posted, but Jon Rosen (LA Kings insider) wrote about Wolf a year ago. Basically, Wolf has strong ties to the Kings through their junior program.
Why did the Kings not use their 7th rounder to take Wolf?
Some tidbits....
Quote:
“So, did you see what Wolfie did tonight?”
It was a question often accompanied by a sly smile when directed towards GM Rob Blake or Director of Player Personnel Nelson Emerson, whose kids “Wolfie” – that’s up-and-coming goaltender Dustin Wolf – played with as a member of the LA Junior Kings.
|
Quote:
“There’d be games where Rob and I would just look at each other and be like, ‘This kid is just amazing,’” Emerson said.
|
Quote:
“The commitment that this family made, to do what they did, to move down to LA was just mind-boggling,” Emerson said.
|
Quote:
Emerson coached that team, with Blake and CAA Agent Pat Brisson serving as two of the assistant coaches. All had kids on the Quebec team, with Brisson also serving as a close mentor and friend of the family – and now Dustin’s agent – after they had met earlier at a squirt tournament in San Diego in which Dustin had emerged as the top goalie.

Yeah, for me any round past three it's fine to go for the guy with talent but a flaw that some find a deal breaker (like Gaudreau and size). In this case I bet it's height as well. It's a copycat league and there are no starters under 6'2".
