1. If we manage to win 3 straight to escape...this could be the kind of momentum builder that catapults a team into the finals.
2. We have never won when down 3-1 in 8 tries. We are due.
3. After we got spanked by the Penguins...the so called game that made our season, we lost in OT the following game to Washington. After that we went on a massive run.
4. We made it further than Tampa.
5. Friedman thinks our odds against the Avs are better than Sharks against Vegas.
6. Avalanche are at their absolute high water mark and it took them 2 OTs to beat us. Flames are a line and a half short of their high water mark.
7. 2 x OT bounces by the 3M line and this series would be flipped. The Avs are full marks for the series score, but this shows how close the line between winning and losing is.
Coincidence that I thought of exactly 7 items off the top of my head??

So we all know the Flames had a couple beat downs this year (Pittsburgh and TB).
Following each of those beat downs the Flames needed to center themselves and find their game. The Flames followed up those loses by taking the next team to OT and unfortunately losing. After that, the Flames went on 4 and 7 game win streaks.
Ergo, big loss to Aves + lose in OT to Aves = We are going streaking!

I admit I have been pretty down today. I have sent a few horrible text messages and said some awful things. I don't really know if I feel guilty or not, but there is ALWAYS something positive in every situation- and I have seen MUCH slimmer odds win.
I was in KC when KC won the World Series, and the year before they won they were selling tickets for $4.00 each. I was in Houston and watched Hurricane Harvey drown a city, and then the Astros came out of nowhere to win the World Series. I saw the Boston Bruins (this still hurts), take control of an opposing 3 goal lead in game 7 with 2 minutes left, to win the series against my beloved Maple Leafs. (urgh, hurts even more). I saw TIM TEBOW and the Broncos literally pull off miracle after miracle win. In 2004 the Red Sox came back from a 3-0 deficit to beat the Yankees in the ALCS! I watched the Kansas Jayhawks make miraculous comebacks that should never have seen the light of day in 2013..
We need to get behind our boys, even if it's one last game- and get them through- AND, let them know that we appreciate the season they've delivered. Go Flames Go!!

This team has surprised me before. I thought they were probably going to stink this season, but they were great. They could surprise me again with a comeback and I would be glad to be proven the fool again.

“At least we aren’t the Oilers” is the single biggest reason why the Flames have been so mediocre for so long. You’re not gonna be a good NHL team if your standard is being better than an AHL team.
The Flames are gonna come out, put it all out there on Friday, and Mike Smith is going to be excellent. I hope it will be enough, but I know it can be!

Calgary Flames, PLEASE GO TO THE NET! AND SHOOT THE PUCK! GENERATING OFFENSE IS NOT DIFFICULT! SKATE HARD, SHOOT HARD, CRASH THE NET HARD!
We have them exactly where we want them. Our backs are to the ropes .
2 hands to the back of the head jumping straight up with the knee .....broken jaw smashed into the tip of the nose shattering it , eyes are watered, they see double . Who do I cover ???? I see two of them . .....oh wait they scored the Avs buckle.
Thunderous Gordy Howe Elbows rain down to the back of the head......crack.
The skull is now split open.
Why in God’s name is Smith on a breakaway in on Grubauer ? Oh my he’s not slowing , not shooting , Grubauer skates out of his crease , Smith toe drags , shoots and scores .
It’s 2-0 it’s electric in the crushed can. The city erupts .
We interrupt this program with a news bulletin ......Moscow in Flames , Rockets head towards New York.....news at 11 ......back to the Flames VS Avs
For all the overall terribleness, at an individual and team level outside of select players, they are simply a Frolik and Backlund OT finish away from being up at least 3-1.
It doesn’t take away the poor play of many players or the Avs screwing up the Flames play in neutral zone which results in them coming back at the Flames in waves, but the results could very different in those two grade A OT chances go in, without the Flames looking or playing any better.
As mentioned, there’s no reason the Flames can’t adapt and get on a roll and have the confidence of one win tomorrow carry into two, and then have a scared Avs team here on Tuesday.
I imagine this may have already been said in this thread...
If the Flames can win game 5 things can change very quickly. There will be a lot of pressure for the Avs going home and feeling the need to close it out. They have been no doubt the underdog and for the first time in the series they will be going into a game tomorrow considered the favourite by many...I think that mentally it can really impact a team and how they play...Ask the Flames.

Since we're playing a game of what-ifs...
What if Smith hadn't suddenly become Kipper's clone when the playoffs started?
