The amount of wear and tear on our D is limited, and essentially eliminates the dumpin as a means for the opposition to gain the zone, forcing them to carry it in always, leading to turnovers.
That said my guess is that both goalies will get starts in the playoffs.

I agree that it's a big deal. Rittich is obviously not on Smith's level, but he's a pretty good puck handler himself too. Well, at least a confident puck handler.

Flames just scored a pile of goals, and importantly Monahan might be feeling pretty nice after that game. San Jose just broke their big funk, so I'm thinking this will be a hell of a tilt, and would not be surprised if it ends up 6-4 or something crazy like that.
Happy with either goalie right now, but Smith seems to be feeling it and getting him into a hot zone for the playoffs would be dynamite.

He plays lights out, great. He craps the bed, oh well, you start Ritter against LA who should be a lock for two points and helps keep him confident. If you start Rittich tonight and he has a bad game and poops the bed then you have a problem imo because your guy you were leaning toward your #1 just took a massive confidence blow.
|
I don’t know how anyone can look at the last 15 games and conclude the team is leaning Rittich to start in the playoffs.
I do believe Peters hasn’t made a final decision, but all signs point to Smith imo. I do t even think you can make a case for Rittich given that Smith is starting g tonight.
Could it change? Sure. Smith has a bad game tonight and the door opens for Rittich. But right now the net is clearly Smith’s to lose. And it has been for some time IMO.

Smith getting the nod makes me think he's the game 1 starter come playoff time

I still say the starter is totally dependant on who the Flames play.
Coyotes? Smith
Avs? Rittich

Certainly not a must win, but damn would it be satisfying to clinch tonight with a decisive victory. Hopefully the Sharks emptied the tank last night.

Flames just need to weather the storm early on. Sharks played last night, and will have their skating legs early on, and I expect them to skate hard for the first period and do their best to put this one away early. If the Flames hold on for the first 20 - even down by a goal - then you can expect the Flames to really start out-skating the Sharks in the 2nd and especially in the third. Flames score early in the first, and I bet the Sharks stop skating hard early on.
Good guys win in a lopsided game - 8-2. Smith with 2 assists.

Gonna dig out the old '04 team-signed jersey to wear while watching out here in BC to help the boys put on the workboots and bring this thing home!!
(Side note: I'd attach a picture but for some reason my "Posting Rules" say I may NOT post attachments...anyone know why that might be...or if I can change that, but I don't see an option for it...?)

I think it will once again be a high scoring affair. 5-2 Flames with Neal and Lindholm scoring 2 goals
