I think Simmonds would get PP time on the second unit, which quite frankly would need a boost.

just uncertain if the cost of what Philly wants is actually worth it...

gilles probably isn't someone that interests Philly with Carter Hart as their future netminder and them acquiring Talbot at his mentor...

Those things all applied to Martin Hanzal when he was traded to Minnesota in 2017(?). Enormous body if not injury-prone, good scorer, good on the powerplay, with past playoff success.

Any team that gives up a first for Simmonds will regret it, imo. If it's the Flames, well, I hope I'm wrong.

Simmonds has pretty ugly underlying numbers. Definitely not an encouraging sign overall and why I wouldn't pay much to acquire him.

As a buy low though? The one encouraging thing about his 5v5 numbers is that he has yet to pick up a secondary assist - all his points are primary points. This could be a sign of poor teammate quality and does separate him from Brouwer who was the beneficiary of guys like Kane, Toews, Kuznetsov, Backstrom, Stastny for years.

But I cringe when people talk about acquiring a guy because he's physical. If he can't impact the game shift for shift, I don't care how tough a customer he is.

If Simmonds costs a 3rd and a prospect, then who cares, fine. But I'd imagine Philly would just keep him for that price.

Because he plays much bigger than his measurements. He plays that power forward style.

I think this is what will happen. Philly will hold onto him rather than take a 3rd, maybe a B prospect too at best.

He’s negative in pretty much every single category, while his PDO is a little low this year yes. He is what he is, and I think he’s overrated and will cost too much. 30-40% of his points come on the PP and he’s not getting that opportunity here.

Ah I'm looking at his total Corsi you're looking at just his even strength. I guess that's fair as he stopped killing penalties this year though historically has killed penalties and played pp

I still wouldn't say those are terrible numbers. His Corsi and Fenwick are 49.. Pretty close to a 50 career

Like I said I think he'd be ideal to pair with Tkachuk and backlund... Backlund d balances out the line and his sandpaper would play well with Tkachuk plus that line could use a shooter

For the 2020 2nd and a late pick I'd be fine with it

He plays tough, I said that. But people keep saying that he's adds size. He'd be right in the middle of height among forwards on the Flames, and on the light side.

Sentimentally I would love Simmonds to come win a cup in Calgary, but I don't see the fit. His advanced stats are terrible -- can't see bill Peters pushing for him. His biggest selling point is his power play presence and leadership/physicality. Nashville and Vegas needs to boost their PP; Boston seems to like physical style players for the playoffs.

Re: trade cost. His acquisition cost was initially rumored to be a 1st plus, but no teams are biting on that. I'd be happy with the flyers getting a 2nd and a 3rd/prospect. Wouldn't be surprised if he stays because offers are too low and they want to push for a miracle run at the playoffs.

I think if you're a so called insider you have to at least keep your name at the top of Twitter feeds these last few days, even if it's garble. Or not.

Frank Seravalli @frank_seravalli
#Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher has now engaged in trade talks for Wayne Simmonds today. He’d been waiting until the last moment before deadline to give his team every chance to claw back in the race.

Simmonds to Montreal could be a decent fit, I guess. Could see Hudon being part of the return.
