Rittich is 13-4-3 in his 20 starts this season, and at that points pace the Flames would have 61 points right now, 7 more than their current 54.

Frustrating situation to say the least.

Oilers are going to have some cap issues with Sekera coming back from LTIR and Talbot has given up there. We could snag him and I could see him turning it around when the D in front of him isn't the worst in the league.

Without focusing on Smith...how good are we offensively?? Jesus Christ it looks like we can score 5+ goals a game. Chucky nearly evened it up there with a laser. I really like how he is taking that position on the PP.

Johnny is a god. Monahan is a genuine #1 C. Tkachuk is the envy of the league. And we managed to snag a legit 1st line winger and a young 2nd pairing, potential first pairing D for Dougie Hamilton!!!

This is the most fun I have had as a flames fan in a long time and we have all these guys locked up for years to come. A really nice core.

Be interesting to see what Treliving does about Smith.

Goaltending has been Treliving's bane ever since he arrived in Calgary and it continues.

True, but a lot of that could be due to the best defenders for that team being with the Flames. While Gillies is not the answer, could he be much worse short term?

I don’t see anyone defending Smith overall. During the game did some people respond to overreactions on particular goals? Yeah. But this game as a final product was on him and no one disputes that. Nor does anyone dispute his poor play this year.

I can see being patient if there was a sign this was turning around. There isn’t though. He’s absolutely terrible. He actually worse than Hiller and I can’t
Believe I would ever say that.

There’s nothing Mike Smith does that suggests he’s capable of turning this around. Flames need put him on waivers for assignment once Rittich is back.

There's nothing bad about Smith that hasn't been said so I'll approach it from another angle.

Smith has 12 wins for us this season. He's 12-9-1. He's now our backup, not starter. If our backup was Gilles or Parsons and they had a 12-9-1 record, I think we'd all be fairly happy.

Backups lose games, that's why they're backups. Anyone remember all of Kipper's backups? Every game they played i expected a loss. It was a pleasant surprise if they won one for us. I would have been ecstatic if McElhinney or McLennan or Toskala had a 12-9-1 record.

Smith is a backup now. Backups lose their fair share of games. We're playing on the second of a back-to-back against a very good Bruins team and almost won. I'm pretty happy with the effort. Hopefully Rittich comes back soon. All this crapping on Smith is nauseating. He sucks, accept it, move on.

Yeah, none of our goalie prospects are looking all that promising. Brossoit actually looks like a decent backup

100% on Smith.

2 bad goals and no timely or big saves.

Can’t trust him at all and it’s now 2019 and not just a “slow start”

Zero chance Edmonton helps a team they are competing for a playoff spot with.

One of the most predictable outcomes possible. Great Flames team sunk by Smith. How many can this management group tolerate? Move on NOW.

Turns out it's really difficult to make saves at an NHL level when you sit on the goal line.

Same with when Neal missed the net on 2-0. It was like some kind of optical illusion to Ball where the puck was.

It's such a treat to see the "Don't Quit" in the team.

It's just a shame that Smith has to come along and ruin it.
