I would agree with this.

I remember the team did not like losing Andrew Ference in the room, and Brad Stuart didn’t much seem to want to be here. I don’t think that Hamilton’s compete level on ice was appreciated in the room.

You see some guys that have been discussed over the past couple of years, and I am glad the Flames have stayed away. Guys like Evander Kane, Robin Lehner, and Ryan O’Reilly come to mind as guys who seem to have skills but that don’t necessarily translate to team success.

Seguin was known in Boston to have challenges with on and off ice balance.

I also wonder about the wisdom of bringing in a rookie coach, in terms of commanding enough respect in the room.

Ryan O'Reilly got drafted by a terrible team and then got traded to an even worse team. No one can fault him for the Avalanche-Sabre eras, the same way we can't fault Monahan, Giordano and Gaudreau for being on ####ty Flame teams. The only real reason people say the things they do about O'Reilly is because he had the taboo of sitting out which may not have sit well with some teammates, but Iginla did that too.

St. Louis is the first team that should have been good with his arrival but people were already blaming Tarasenko and accusing him of being a bad lockerroom presence, they also have Bouwmeester. So probably more fair to blame someone other the defensively elite point-per-game center who is a known rink rat at this point. He might not be likable, who knows, but no one questions his effort.

People are motivated in one or both of two ways, depending on circumstances.

Positive and/ or negative energy. The best leaders I have known are not afraid to use either, whether it be publicly or privately.

The message has been delivered. The response of the recipient(s) is what matters and will speak volumes of their commitment to the team.

More interested in that, then how it was presented to Benn and Seguin.
