So, will Nylander have been paid 3/4 of his salary this season by the trade deadline on March 14, 2019?

Not sure what you're asking here, but Nylander will receive 41% of this total contract in the first 10 months.
Then some other team (highly likely IMO) will pay the other 60% over 5 years.

Giordano's name is shamefully, and criminally, missing from this list. As is Tavares, ffor that matter.

It's even better if you include year 2 (post signing bonus):
$0.77M
$6M (4 times)

The value of a players 1st few UFA years is considerably more than later years.
That because it generally means that player forgoes UFA until a time that is less advantages to him.
Expect a 5 year contract at $6M per season ending when a player is, say 28, to cost about $8M per season on a 8 year deal, adding about $34m for the extra 3 years. That’s the price for asking a player to forgo becoming a UFA until age 31.

I don't know why there are so many salty negative comments from flames fans. This is great news for tkachuck's contract.

No kidding, we are so lucky to have all of Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm, Hanifin, and soon to be Tkachuk locked up until they are 28 years young!

You wonder what the hell he was still doing over in Sweden.
Not like he can get over jet lag in a day or two.

Not sure why this us true, when Nylander is getting way more than most predicted. Especially considering it covers only one UFA year.

The Internet is a salty place, my friend.
This is a great deal for all teams with RFAs IMO.
Dubas has used MLSEs cash to undo some of the damage that Chiarelli did with Draisatl.

I never looked at it that way but that's spot on. Who would've thought the leafs cash reserves would benefit everyone.

Nylander and tkachuck's comparables when it comes to points is very similar (unless tkachuck keeps up with this torrid pace). I don't know why you think he's getting way more than expected. 6.9 is in line with comparable contracts and if you ask me I think it's a bargain given his upside in the long term. Nylander drove play last year with and without Matthews.

LOL at Sportsnet. They showed all the contracts that Nylander "leapfrogged" (to say it's a win for the NHLPA). They list Gaudreau, Pasternak, etc. Guess who they left off the list?

Burke says Nylander is 6-7th best on that team and shouldn't be paid that much.

Looking at that contract I can see the Leafs trading Nylander after July 1 next year. Pay him to make a run this year, pay his bonus, get a haul in a trade, re-sign Kapanen to go with Marner and Matthews.

Friedman and Maclean at "but he'd be worth that much in another team". But it's clear Burke doesn't think Nylander is in the top 3 on many teams. He certainly would be back of Gaudreau, Tkachuk and Gio on this team, and he hasn't shown me that he's better than Monahan. He'd be second onEdmonton maybe. He'd be no better than fourth on Boston, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Washington...

It's a bargaining tactic. If he flies over before the contract is signed, it signals to the Leafs that he is leaning towards playing this season and weakens his position.
I'm not saying I agree or disagree with his position, but there are lots of subtle little things you do to make people sweat.
