Philips had one too, and another a couple games back. I dont see people going bananas over that. It's great, but it is what it is. Let's see him follow it up then follow that up and so forth.
I don't really have a side in this, but when Sven was struggling, any tiny thing he did right was celebrated broadly by posters who really had invested in him emotionally. I remember particularly one good long pass he made. It was good all right, but a speck in a sea of mediocre play.

The forward depth this year is crazy. Can't wait for the season to start.

The Bennett fanboys grasp at straws like no other.

You guys would applaud him for making a good line change or a solid dump in.

Some of us expect more from a 4th overall pick.

Let's see him put up 20-25 points in the first 40. That's good production over a decent sample size. I think that would be a reasonable goal to set.

If he helps the team win in different ways though then I'm less concerned with the actual numbers.

At this point his draft pedigree is trivial. Just focus on what he is actually bringing to the table instead of letting structure govern his agency

I see the points on both sides, but it’s about time we put his draft position to rest and start looking at the player he is today and the player he has the potential to be.

Where a player is drafted eventually becomes a pretty meaningless measurement.

20 goal scorers?

Gaudreau
Monahan
Neal
Tkachuk
Are very probable, if not shoo ins

Lindholm
Backlund
Jankowski
Are probably right there at 15+

Czarnik
Bennett
Ryan
Are wildcards and could hit or come up fairly short

We really could have a plethora of scoring.

TB and TO are the only two teams had six +20-goal scorers on their roster last year:

Nikita Kucherov — 39
Brayden Point — 32
Steven Stamkos — 27
Yanni Gourde — 25
Tyler johnson — 21
Vladislav Namestnikov — 20

James Van Riemsdyk — 36
Austen Matthews — 34
Nazem Kadri — 32
Patrick Marleau — 27
Mitch Marner — 22
William Nylander — 20

I think Toronto slides back a bit—the loss of Van Riemsdyk will not be unnoticed, even with the addition of Tavares, and Marleau is as old as dust tallying his lowest sans-lockout points-total last year since 2002.

There were six additional teams with five +20-goal scorers: Winnipeg, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Chicago, NYI, and VGK.

I remember when Darryl Sutter boasted about collecting 20-goal scorers. The 09 team had five: Cammalleri, Iginla, Langkow, Bourque, and Moss (lol).

Ultimately, it's not a huge deal. Just try for a balanced attack.

And Jokinen after the deadline! (When many thought they had a really good chance to compete)

Plus, that team had Lombardi, Bertuzzi, Phaneuf, Conroy, and even Aucoin as former 20-goal scorers, and Glencross as a future 20-goal scorer as soon as the next season (oh, and Giordano like seven years later.) Proof that it goes well beyond the numbers sometimes.

Why does every thread turn into a Bennett thread?

Heaven forbid people are optimistic about him. Sorry for feeling good for the guy, he endured more Brouwer time than anyone else, we should all cut him a little slack

Just ignore the fact that he had 1 good game, like 15 average games and 4 crap games in his last 20.

The problem, Bennett gets brought up even when the Flames have a good game. You just can't hold back and enjoy the win without pointing out Bennett is not good enough for you! We know that already so why keep repeating it?? Little wonder so many people were sick of the negativity last season even when the Flames won and here you all are again ready to turn a few more people away instead of just enjoying the game. Whats wrong that some people are happy to see Bennett score! Lets enjoy the season and see how Bennett does with a new coach please?

Just two addendums to your “old as dust” Marleau comment.
He is still one of the best skaters in the NHL and still has a great release.

Monahan, Gaudreau and Tkachuk played just fine with the 'other' coach.

Giordano scored 20 once. Perhaps he has a chance again reunited with Brodie. Brodie loves to find Giordano for the one timer. Whereas when he was with Hamilton the shots would often come from Hamilton.

Lots of people posting line combos with Neal on the third. IMO that won't happen. And if it does his production drops because of ice time (and linemates) and he becomes a whipping boy.

Yes, and Monahan and Gaudreau had each other for linemates, and Tkachuk had Backlund.

Bennett spent the majority of the time carrying that possession black hole whose name we do not speak here. Or, if he was lucky, with Hathaway or Lazar, who appear to be well on their way to becoming career tweeners. Most of the linemates he played with last year are not good enough to make the team this year, with the one exception being Jankowski.
