Godard, McGrattan, Engelland and Jackman were all pretty respectable.

I wasn't disappointed with what Engelland brought after they signed him. He exceeded my expectations.

Outside of Glass and Engelland who do you think has been one of the toughest Flames the past few years?
|
If that’s what you are basing it on then Lazar was one of the tougher players as well.

I’m going to dream that if the Flames get a sense that Reaves will sign here, ditto with Ryan, that the Flames will go ahead and process that Troy Brouwer buyout paperwork that’s been sitting on Brad’s desk for nearly 2 years.

Admittedly I didn't watch a lot of Vegas hockey outside of the playoffs, but Reaves was good on the forecheck. He really had guys looking over their shoulders when retrieving pucks in the corners and behind the net. I think we could use that on our 4th line.

Help, save, whatever.
|
From what I have read he is looking for a long term deal that is why he may not sign with LV. So I doubt he is interested in coming to another team to sign a 1 year, 1.5 million contract.
If he doesn't sign with LV I would guess he needs minimum 4 years at 2 million a year.
It seriously makes sense for the Flames to trade for Martin. The Leafs would trade him for free basically. He is actually a good player. He defensively is very solid and does have some offensive ability. He is younger than Reaves and only has 2 years left on his contract.

Flames were interested in Matt Martin when he was a FA as well

If we aren't going to use the cap space, may as well just bury Brouwer in the stands or AHL and wait until next year so he only counts against the cap for two seasons and not four.

Sure, we will trade you Brouwer for Martin.

Lol that they are wooing Reaves with dinner and 2 upper management guys. This is the kind of player that an agent calls teams to see if they are interested in him.

I did..... based on YOUR criteria Lazar was one of the tougher Flames as was Hathaway, Bennett, and Brouwer.... even Grossmans brief stint here he averaged the same amount of hits per game. Reaves with far less ice time is almost a full hit per game higher then Ferland.

The only time this team had any success in your lifetime? 2003/2004? Toughest team in the NHL. They were not bad in the playoffs either.
I can't believe that after the SCF we just watched tough guys are still being questioned. Yeah, much rather have the butter soft Lazar there scoring his 2 friggen goals

Doesn't matter what my criteria was. Use yours.
You seemed to imply that Ferland wasn't tough. I asked who the toughest Flames have been during the past couple years.
Did we or did we not lose some toughness when we lost Engelland and Ferland? Bennett is gritty, dunno if I'd describe him as tough. Brouwer? Not really that tough. Hathaway? He hits and he grinds but his hits don't hurt as bad as guys like Ferland and Reaves. Hathaway doesn't seem like much of a fighter. Lazar? Much like Bennett he's very gritty and hard on the puck but I wouldn't describe him as tough.
Flames aren't a very tough team. Reaves would help that. Are we really in disagreement about anything here? I get some fans were bitter that Ferland didn't hit or fight as much as they wanted but it seems pretty hard to dispute that we lost toughness when we lost Engelland (big time) and we lost a bit of toughness when we dealt away Ferland (although his physical game had dropped off a bit.)

To me there are 2 kinds of tough in hockey.... the fighting aspect and being tough to play against. To me Ferland was neither of those. I also thought Engelland was a thought s.o.b. and you Mr.Ferland are no Engelland.
