I can’t help but think they have a few other deals they are working and will eventually pull the trigger on one that nets the team a top 6 forward. I get the feeling it will be Bennett but I hope not. If Lindholm is going to play the middle it could be Jankowski?
Bennett+Jankowski for Gallagher?

Peters would've coached Gallagher at the World Championships. There was a brief comment about how he liked players from both the Hurricanes and Team Canada.

I can live with that.
Edit: forgot Bennett, somehow.

That third line may never score a goal.

Perron and jvr i agree but neal would be a great addition to the top 6. I really hope we dont give perron a big contract though. That could bite us badly a few years down the line

I like the idea of Tkachuk on the top line but I would rather Gaudreau being the one that moves to RW

I'd take any of JVR, Perron or Neal for the right price. 1st choice would definitely be JVR.

I have concerns about their age and the length of contract/amount I see them wanting. I don't see them as a fit regardless of their possible contribution. I actually don't want any of the UFA crop. If we can't arrange a trade for someone like Nino or equivalent age then I live with who we have. I think we make the playoffs with this team and any expectations beyond that are pie in the sky. We're definitely not going to win the cup next year or the year after so if we can, go after someone who fits the current young age group and build for 3 years down the road. As I said, I don't want any of them.

Djanko will, don't know about the other two. They need big seasons next year.

Remember quotes from Flames management:
Quote:
Treliving: It’s true, but you do that exercise all the time. This year, more than any other, because of the Vegas success, it’s harder. The guy that somebody might have traded you a year ago, teams might be a little more cautious with. Because now, everybody’s the next William Karlsson, right? Everybody thinks they have two or three guys who are the next William Karlsson and so they’re being careful. But that’s where we’ve directed our energies. I’d rather take some value swings than give somebody six years at $6.5 million – if that makes any sense.
|
Guessing it won't be a big name if they add by free agency. Probably identified a low profile player they feel could add to their PP and have top 6 upside, if properly utilized
Maybe Frk? It is a small sample size for him, but he has decent PP /60 numbers.

I don't know, man. If that freakin' expansion Vegas team can go on a long playoff run, then so can the Flames. With the right coaching, system, and the right mix of players, I'd say just about any team not named the Oilers can do it. Such is the parity in today's game.
Last year's Flames team should have been in the mix for the division lead for f*** sakes. If not for Gully's terrible system, his stubborn refusal to try anything different, and Cameron's horrendous PP, I think they would have been battling it out with the top teams in the west, especially with the excellent goaltending we were getting from Smith for most of the year.

Maybe they are looking for more scoring but looking and doing are two different things. It's easy to wish but hard to make things happen in today's NHL.
We can't get our expectations too high here. I think that caused some of the disappointment in the Hamilton trade. There was a thread about Hamilton being traded for Lindholm and Hanifin and people were generally on board with that, some were even hoping to get more. Then the deal happens and it's what we heard but Ferland and Fox were going with Dougie. Suddenly, what?!? We're improved, just not as improved as we were dreaming about one day earlier. That's a bit of a letdown.
So, let's dream about JVR, Neal, etc.but let's not be too disappoint if we can only add/change the bottom six.

Honestly hoping they dig somebody up with a "value swing" and have internal growth from guys like Bennett, Janko, Mangi and Foo.
That would be much better than doling out huge cash for a 30 year old UFA winger.

You can be assured that if you're right I'll be cheering as hard as you. Although I wasn't impressed with GG I won't lay all the blame on him. Team makeup had something to do with it and we still have some of those pieces. One big scorer isn't going to correct all the warts.

So many boxes checked. Right handed, RW, effective on the PP, Young (24 years old)
I'd love that signing

Martin Frk
Quote:
Assets: Owns a wicked shot and terrific hand/eye coordination, so he profiles as a goal-scorer at all levels. Is silky smooth with the puck on his stick. Can be a constant offensive threat.
Flaws: Can be guilty of playing to aggressively, both in terms of too many penalties and a bit of a lack of defensive awareness. Could also stand to add more bulk to his frame.
Career Potential: Offensive winger with some upside.

Hockey Buzz Article
Quote:
The 24-year-old winger appeared in 68 games with the Red Wings last season and managed to put up 25 points in that span. Very respectable totals considering he averaged just a hair over 10 minutes per night.
At 5v5, he tallied 15 points in 532 minutes. That averages out to be 1.69 per 60 minutes. For perspective, only four Flames produced points at an equal or higher rate last season.
Given the caliber of Frk's shot, it's fair to say he doesn't use it enough. No regular forward in Detroit's lineup generated 5v5 shots on goal at a lesser rate and only Luke Glendening averaged fewer attempts/60. There are also some questions about Frk's defensive game.
