I've heard the same thing. King did a lot of good in the early years of his tenure. Wish him nothing but the best going forward.

Burke seems like the perfect swap in for Don Cherry if he'd ever retire.

I didn't want Burke when rumors first started about him coming here, but as some posters have mentioned, he did bring back some respectability to this organization after being a laughing stock for the previous few years.

With that being said, since then I don't really know what he has done. I didn't like him adding his input concerning the arena, I think hiring Treliving was a positive.. but aside from those two things I really don't have any idea what he really did and what his contributions were to the organization. We simply don't know what conversations he had with Treliving.

So, it will be interesting to see how Treliving does without having Burke to talk to and get his opinion. I believe Burke when he stated that he would never stop Treliving from making a move, but for sure they had discussions on moves. Maybe during those discussions Burke dissuaded Treliving from making a move, or encouraged him in another direction. We really don't have a clue how much of the prior moves was 100% Treliving and how many moves were based on Treliving having these discussions with Burke.

I am surprised that the Flames are not looking to replace him, however. They were courting Shanahan after all prior to hiring Burke, and most organizations are going in the direction of having a POHO. I bet that eventually Maloney ends up in that spot. Maybe Treliving moves up and Maloney becomes GM. Maybe they hire someone external. I would be surprised - based on how the league is going and what the Flames decided on - that this position is just deleted.

Brian Burke was good for the team. I wish him all the best in retirement or whatever future endeavors he wishes.

From his meddling in hockey operations to completely dropping the ball on the arena, it's pretty easy to get the King hate.

He should have been fired in August 2015.

Only if you want a two person panel dynamic that consists of loudmouthed old person whining that things aren't the way they used to be.

When Cherry is gone that panel is gone. Coaches Corner doesn't survive Cherry.

To me, over the past few years has has had one major project - to build the arena. Instead of creating momentum within the community to bring support for the arena, he has actually crushed it. His adversarial approach has completely backfired.

If I had a single major project and bungled it as spectacularly as King, I'd be fired very quickly.

King was at the Grey Cup announcement the other day but didn't talk to the media because he didn't want to answer any questions about the arena/stadium issue.

Heard that from the same source as the Tavares rumour. This gives me more confidence that the following is true and we will see the Flames make a big play to bring him in.

Not surprised Burke let go/ stepping down too many managers. Has to suck knowing Ken King is the tool still with the organization though.
Seriously what does this Muppet bring to the table still.

I've always like Burkie

during the hockey lockout, when he was on the panel with Strachan and called him a union stooge and threatened to punch his lights out.

After the Ducks eliminated the Flames he wrote a letter to the Calgary Sun praising the Flames fanbase.

His handling of his son's death and continuing his legacy.

The fact that the guy never tied his tie and looked like a mob enforcer half the time

Then snark man, the snark.

Burke joining Sportsnet for the rest of the playoffs

Sportsnet is welcoming a familiar face to the fold as Brian Burke joins the network’s 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs coverage for the remainder of the post-season. Burke will be adding commentary, insights and analysis to a wide variety of Sportsnet’s NHL coverage across television, radio and digital.

I hope you're right.
If trading for Hamonic ends up being a deciding factor of bringing in Tavares than that trade was worth it!

Think what you want, but KK has WAY more than building an arena on his docket.

He is the business head of 4 different sports franchises. He is the face of ownership of all of them. He is the guy responsible for hiring the guys that run each of those franchises and meeting with all those people on a regular basis to see that things are running smoothly, making sure they have what/who they need to be successful, and then deciding if those people are getting the job done.

Again, his position is all about the business side of things, and in that vein, I would think they have been relatively profitable, while contributing charity levels unmatched by other enterprises in town.

Yeah the arena thing is a mess, but he has had help from the city on that front. Also, he has marching orders from his bosses just as council and his mayorship have theirs from the citizens.

BB has joined SN already. LOL

I never said that it was his only thing on his docket - I said that it was his major project.

Too bad it’s SN. Would’ve loved to watch Burkie intimidate James Duthie some more on TSN. Or join Jay and Dan lol.

A little sad but obviously he's felt he's done all he can in the NHL. Thanks for coming to CGY.

Even though there were things I disagreed with, I really respected Burke for his emphasis on building character through community involvement. I think he has contributed a great deal to our city, and I wish him all the best.
