I'd love it if there could be a "hide" feature where the name of the poster you've hidden doesn't appear and only "Post Hidden" is shown. I think there's less of a temptation to unhide is under the premise of "lets see what &*)(#%, the moron, said this time" when people get bored.

None of the real problem posters are reading this thread anyways. And if they are they're thinking the thread isn't about them.
It's like those threads we used to have about what type of fan you are. 99% of respondents claimed they were level headed and don't get too high and don't get too low. All about the even kiel.
But when you read every other thread it is filled with people at an 11 on the emotion scale and posting nothing but super positive or super negative depending on the team's performance that game/period/shift.

So...people who don't agree with you are stupid...Got it! Things can go south on both sides of the coin. people can be over bearing in their views and how they express them and people can also be hyper sensitive to anything contrary to their own line of thinking. In both cases you get the fringe elements that don't accept any real discussion. Maybe we just have different ideas about what political correctness is.

I think religious fanaticism is a pretty low bar. One that people cheering for a game can and probably should rise above fairly easily.

Yet I don't see that large of a difference between the two groups, look at Soccer fans in England and Europe, Raiders fans, Yankees fans, etc.
I'm not saying there isn't an issue, I am saying that no matter what people do, I feel this will cause a watered down discussion forum. Name calling can go a bit far but many people that care enough to discuss this will have strong enough feelings to defend their opinion and sometimes in life you have to deal with name calling as juvenile as it is.
I'm not defending the negative aspects but I do defend free speech. CP has a built in function to allow you to avoid users that consistently post against what you believe is civil, use it.

I don't think that's taking responsibility for ones own behavior. I know I'm not perfect here. Regardless of how the ups and downs of a group of grown men playing a child's game play out, you can still find a way not to be a dick to strangers

No one says you can't disagree, or be critical. Just don't be a raging ####### when you do it. It's just the basics of being not a complete dickhead.

Not stupid, but unnecessarily abrasive. Strawman arguments, ad homenim attacks, etc. Sometimes there's a miscommunication, or clarification that can be asked for, or a valid counterpoint that can be made. But a lot of times people will just go right into attack mode first.

For sure. For me, I don't post a lot - but I ghost post a ton, and it's usually when I step back and try and think of what someone reading my post might come across; and usually it's when one of the two extremes you point out might pop up (and that I don't really want to/have time to get into a back-and-forth with someone).

Wading in while in between clients. Post as if you (meaning anyone) were face to face with the person.
Its perfectly fine to bag on Gulutzan, Treliving, good trades bad trades, coaching staff, players or support any one of those subjects.
What is not cool JMO is bagging on particular posters and popping off at them because you dislike them even though u know very little about them.
Me I prefer to just like comments that align with my thought on the topic.
I have cut my posts way back this year simply because I just don't need the arguments.
Social experiment next time u are in a lineup anywhere start a conversation with a stranger about anything and then reply you are an idiot and see where that goes.
Then go up to your boss the next day ask him any question and reply you are an idiot and see if you are still employed.

Honestly it's been a frustrating season, but the level of civility hasn't these days hasn't bothered me much.
What frustrated me in the past were the 'chronic' negative posters, and troll baiters that would spew negativity whether the team was doing well or not. Luckily I think the mods have taken care of the big names in the business during the last couple of years! I give them props for that.

And yet, hooligans are seen as criminals, Raiders fans as unwelcoming, and Yankee fans just got laughed at in the sports world for booing Stanton at their first home game.
There are examples of it, but none of them are positive, and all of them are low bar. If you’re happy with a toxic fan culture, so be it, but I like taxbuster for standing up and saying something about it instead of lazily just hitting the ignore button.
And hey, maybe you could even excuse a toxic fan culture if there was some genuine passion to it. But go to the Dome, it’s a library. You want to excuse toxic behaviour under the name of being a “fan”? Well if you listen to the crowd in Oakland, New York, or Liverpool, you’ll hear what fans sound like, even when the team is losing. And it’s not crickets.

I think this is why a lot of old-school posters get sin-binned as well. After years on here they do it in a way that is more snarky, or more abrasive and less helpful, and eventually leads to their downfall.
I think part of that is that it wears on you. It definitely wears on me. There are emotional posts, and those usually get a pass, but if a) there were more thought put into posts and b) less defensiveness when said thoughts are challenged [in a healthy debate manner], then it would be idyllic.
Either that or we'll all be Vegas fans by this time next year.
