Ah I see - thought you were saying Namestikinov was better than Miller.
I think they could get somewhat close just need to push out the draft picks a year - probably works out to:
Ferland, Dube, Kylington, 2019 1st, 2020 conditional 2nd
With the Flames already making the Hamonic trade in the offseason it's not a pretty outcome from our end though. Also don't really need the d-men.

I think this is great value. Miller and Mcdonough are both young and both have contract left. I think Miller > Namestnikov personally.
|
The point being we don't have a 1st or a Namestnikov to trade...he would be 4th in scoring on the Flames
It may work out for Tampa...maybe not
Has absolutely nothing to do with the Flames

Brodie + Rasmus Andersson + Dube + 2019 first.
That is a better offer IMO.

agreed... also, while there's a ton of D prospects in the system, there's no one like Namestikov, which is something the rangers wanted as a part of the puzzle...
howden was a first round pick, TB gave up another #1 and might have to add another #1 (or second)...
TB can do this because of great drafting and talent development

For McDonagh and JT Miller? No thanks, I'd rather keep all those pieces.

This trade illustrates the organization gap between between a team like Tampa and the Flames.
Just a grand canyon difference in terms of organizational depth. The equivalent of moving Ferland + picks and the team got better.

Yeah, seems like Rangers got robbed. Basically Ferland plus what we traded for Hamonic.

So McDonagh is reunited with Girardi who he was a pairing with in NY....which allows Sergachev to play the bottom pairing and PP. Someone gets injured? Brayden Coburn sitting there waiting.
Just ridiculous depth.

Yeah it really shows the quality of TB's drafting and developing when a guy like Hajek who doesn't even make their top-10 prospects is considered a major piece in a trade for McDonagh.

Looked like Yzerman may have waited for Dorion to blink before pulling the trigger:
Greg Wyshynski @wyshynski
Told the Ryan McDonagh trade was in fact a last minute deal: Agreed upon at 2:59 p.m. ET.

Constantly trading picks is what gets you to mediocrity.
There is no point for the Flames to trade for McDonagh at this point in time. Yes he makes you better now, but you're paying for it down the road. This has been a weakness of Flames management for a while now.

They have drafted in the top 10 five times in 10 years
including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall...I think its easier to tank every other year in a non hockey market

Wonder if Tampa wanted Hoffman + Karlsson from Ottawa, considering they went after Miller + McDonagh

They are likely playing Boston in round 2...I don't think them winning the east is a forgone conclusion

Looks like a win-win deal. Given Tampa's window, they can afford to give up picks for this year and the next. McDonagh is a stud. JT Miller is much better piece than Namestnikov.
NYR got a bunch of picks and prospects; they don't need McDonagh given their direction.
