I think it was mentioned in another thread that the tunnel was made made in anticipation of the Fire Stone park development that never happened.

Didn't live here as a kid but Google maps shows a road clearly on the south side of Memorial but nothing other than a portal on the north side. There may be some truth to your recollection.

I think this whole endeavour shows a real lack of consideration to local crackheads. By removing their 'Safe Spaces' you're threatening their mental health so now we're going to have to buy them stress puppies so they can hug it out.

Really shortsighted IMO.

I stay up on my tagger and gang graffiti symbols by studying the new ones that are added in here daily. I'm also amazed at how much "stuff" gets left by the homeless in this tunnel, usually in a Safeway shopping cart. The City is pretty good at cleaning all of this out on a reasonably timely basis as it's a heavily used tunnel.

After spending 20 mins convincing my boss the tunnel isn’t that bad and we need to walk through it one more time before it is closed we found 2 homeless folk shooting up and discarded needle on the ground.

I believed in the good you brought to the world piss tunnel and today you let me down. It is a bitter sweet end to our 20 years together helping me safely cross the road
