I know this is a totally irrational statement, but I would feel soooo much better about this team if they were 6-4-0 instead of 5-5-0.
It is just 2 points, but, we would be 2 pts. behind other teams who are being lauded for their "hot starts" (like the Laffs, Sens, and even the Knights - I know they have games in hand).
And the former is a playoff snake and the latter is not!

from that take, heck if the oilers win their game in hand, they are just one point back of the flames.......

I have no problems with the Kulak switch. At some point one of these young guys fighting for that 6th spot needs to take it from the vet and run with it. I thought Kulak has only been meh. He definitely hasn't played well enough to make it a hard coaching decision.

Well that is what happens when you lose 3 of the last 4.
Sucks because we really deserved better - but there it is.
We just need to string some wins together now.

Putting Tanner Glass out on the ice is like being on the penalty kill when you don't have to be. It feels like the team is playing at a man disadvantage most of the time that he's out there.

It's not irrational at all. Two games over .500 looks and sounds a lot better than .500 even if only it's the difference between one outcome in ten games. If you finish 6-4 in every ten game segment you are bordering on a 50 win season and likely winning a division and 5-5 every segment borders on a 40 win season and likely missing the playoffs. That said we know there will probably be some 7-3 runs and 4-6 runs throughout the season but the points you lose in October are lost for good which is why I'm hoping the team can have a really good November and start banking points.

Hamonic needs to up his game IMO. He was really bad with the giveaways in his own zone late in the third against NSH the other night.

He really has had some brutal giveaways in these first 10 games. So has Brodie. They lead the team in that stat. Hamonic has 10 giveaways. Brodie has 12. Not good at all when they are a pairing.
At least Brodie does have 7 takeaways, Hamonic has 2.
Really hope this pairing starts looking like we all had envisioned with more games under their belts.

Same against the Wild as well. Just terrible. Outside of that he's been good. But man six brain dead give aways in your own zone is ugly.

Hamonic has been just fine, and his defensive zone play has allowed Brodie to be a major offensive catalyst. That's his job on this team, and he's doing it well outside of a couple plays. Brodie still turns the puck over way more often.

I'm still mad about his giveaways, just absolutely horrid... and he appears to be the only one still having difficulty adjusting to Smith's quick passes/playing the puck.
Perhaps it's a slight overreaction on my part based on expectations, but I'm still underwhelmed thus far. I certainly wouldn't categorize his play as "excellent"...he needs to make better decisions than 10+ turnovers in 10 games to be "excellent".

He's really not that bad... I was skeptical coming into the season but he's better than I feared he would be. Wish he was putting up points but the physicality he brings is better than what Lazar or F Hamilton would bring tonight.

Glass and his 7 or 8 minutes are the least of the teams' problems. The problem are guys like Bennett, Ferland, Lazar, Brouwer, Versteeg, and yes Jagr (for being injured) for not producing. With the exception of Brouwer, none of these guys have spent anytime playing with Glass, so Glass has not been hurting their production.
I don't even know why the haters are always on this Glass thing. Everytime he plays, Gaudreau gets more ice time because he gets double shifted into Glass's spot, so in essence, GG is actually icing "the best" lineup because he's got Gaudreau on two lines.
Gaudreau on the 4th LW spot every second shift is better than Lazar or Hamilton or Hathaway or Stajan or Brouwer or Bennett or anyone else.

Totally.
Glass has had more scoring chances than Lazar or Hamilton.

I think part of the problem with some of the D giveaways are the forwards are too spread out and not closer to the D in their zone making the D having to make too many high risk passes

Partly. Brodie's issue was his backhand pass the last few games (I know). He's partially fanned on it a couple times.
BTW, I just watched the replays from last game. I can't find two Hamonic giveaways for two goals, just on the first one. He wasn't on the ice for any of the others except the ENG.

I personally think this team is not going to win on a consistent basis with Ferland playing on our top line. I like the dude and he deserves a spot on the team but he is not a top line player. I am still hoping to see more of Jagr but doubtful he is the answer either. I don't know who to try on that line but I hope GG and his gang can get something figured out.

And that giveaway was caused by a slash to the stick. Surprised not many are talking about that when talking about that turnover.

Hard to believe the guy has been here 9(!) seasons. He's certainly got to be up there for all times Flames' games played. I love him for all his hard work in the community and games past, but man oh man the day cannot come fast enough that he's off the team.
I see our 4th line and how they make a combined ~9 million dollars, have nothing to show for it, and it makes me sad.
