I do, Johnny was man handled last year and nobody was there to answer the bell or defend him.

Nothing more than signing to ensure we can meet the vet min requirements. Don't see al the fuss. The only way he sticks around longer than the split squad game is as insurance one of the other vet has a minor injury and is held out as a precaution.

You are not alone in this. Even if it occurred, it is not like it ever had any impact on the results of games.

Hopefully this is the only reason.

The Flames can sign whatever PTO's they want and it doesn't really matter to me. There lots of excuses for the bad camp and bad start last year, but not this year.
The team needs to have a reasonable start and I'd like to see roster decisions for opening night made with a slightly long term view. In general there are enough vets on this team to help carry along a younger player or two, as long as they demonstrate some worthiness in camp.
If signing this guy helps make for a better, more competitive camp which in the long run helps the young players, then fantastic. If he makes the team, then it means a few young guys crapped the bed.

It had a real impact on the game results. Johnny played scared for most of the season, and while I hope the new cracked down on hand slashing has more of an impact, it can't hurt to have Glass as an option.

The Wild game was an embarrassment, but nobody in the league is going to think twice about hacking Gaudreau because Tanner Glass is in the lineup. It was up to Monahan or Brouwer or even Johnny himself to retaliate and stand and make that message clear. They kind of just let it happen and if Staal and the rest of those Wild players feel that they can get away with hacking and slashing, you best believe that they will continue to until they are deterred.
Regardless though I still feel like we're a fairly physical team, and it definitely never alarmed me in the playoffs that we were somehow overwhelmed in that department against probably the biggest and most annoying team in the Anaheim Ducks. Even in the Tkachuk/Doughty saga with the Kings (another notoriously big and aggressive team) I never felt as if our team physicality was an issue.

Does January 21 2017 ring a bell?Johnny was abused in that game and nobody stuck up for him.

No issues. They need some warm bodies for preseason. Suit up, protect the young guys, good enough.

Of course I remember, but I am fairly convinced that adding a meathead to the lineup would have had no effect on the game itself, nor on the outcome.

I have a few thoughts on this and perhaps they have been made already:
- It appears that the teams master plan is becoming more clear
- This guy is a pane to play against
- I like the guy, nice and smooth like
- he will s unbreakable
I will show myself out now

Signing Glass to a PTO hopefully will not have the harmful effect that our last PTO signing had. IMO the combination of PTO signing Grossman plus Wideman had a huge impact on the Flames horrible start last year. If we waste a roster spot on Glass or Gadzic we risk getting the season off in the wrong foot as we did last year by placing two of the slowest defensemen in the league against our biggest rival in the first two games of the year. If these two plugs play in the AHL to protect our young guys I am fine with this strategy. Keep them out of the Flames line-up please.

Nothing wrong with PTOs. Every team does it. It makes training camp more competitive.
What is bad is signing PTOs. Last year there were over 100 PTOs. 5 got signed, 2 by the Flames. If a team signs a PTO it usually means that top propsects dropped the ball in training camp. Hopefully that doesn't happen this year.
