?? Gadzic is there to fight. Falkovsky was a defenseman who would've been the organization's 15th best defenseman

I hope the hand wringing doesn't bother you too much...
And I'm not stating one directly impacted the other. Other than the team has 50 contracts available and from what I know, Falkovsky would make a better use of one of the slots.

It's almost like people don't know while enforcers are not required in the NHL they are still common place in the AHL. We are losing Bollig and Devane this year and need to replace them with at least one other facepuncher. That's done now.

The fact that fighting seems to be the only reason he was offered a contract is unfortunately the problem IMO. Prefer a defenseman prospect who might one day contribute to winning an NHL game. Or just about anyone else for that matter.

But having Gadzic or no Gadzic has no bearing on whether there would be room for Falkovsky or not

You need to stop getting this signing confused with the lack of signing Falkovsky. They are unrelated and have no bearing on each other.

Aren't there guys looking for AHL contracts that can do that? And it's a shame that a development league has to waste playing time and practice time on this. I'm not going to lose sleep over it, but seems to me I've heard the excuse over the years that they don't want to send a vet down because it would take away valuable development time from a young player.
I understand what you're saying but it's a rather stupid situation, wouldn't you agree?

Understood. They are both unfortunate developments.

RE: Bolded
I agree that losing Falkovsky is unfortunate. But i see no issue with a 1 year 2 way for Gazdic.

I have a feeling he'll see some action this year on the Flames against a couple divisional opponents.

This guy better not be displacing a Lazar or a Jankowski on the opening day roster or there will be a lot of Flames fans and season tickets holders extremely disappointed. Fine if he is in Stockton, but why waste one of fifty contracts on this guy.

I don't get it would you guys rather have Ferly,Gio or Sam fight Lucic or Manson? This is why they signed him for mainly those two teams. We are not Chicago or Nashville we have a big rivalry with those two teams. He won't have a full time spot on the team.

Oilers and Ducks owned the Flames last year, you can blame bad goaltending all you want, but the Flames were never able to play their game against these two teams.
Guys who are normally "truculent" like Ferland, Tkachuk, Bennett, Bouma, Brouwer (well sometimes) were never "truculent" in games against these teams. Ferland would answer the bell when he was challenged or if a teammate was roughed up (see Thompson on Backlund), but otherwise, he wasn't as aggressive or assertive against these teams as compared to other teams.
It makes a world of difference for guys like Ferland and Bennett if they know they can go out there and be physical, and don't have to answer to the likes of Kassian, Maroon, Lucic, Boll, Manson, etc.
Just like how Big Ern use to tell Gaudreau not to worry about anything and just play his game cause no one was going to touch him; no one ever did touch Gaudreau when Big Ern was around. In fact, it was really just last season that Gaudreau started taking a lot of extra abuse, and coincidentally, it was also the first year that a pure enforcer (either McGratton or Bollig) up front was not in the lineup. Of course Engelland was there, but he was a valuable defenceman. Hell for most of the year, he was the 4th best defenceman on the team. I'm talking about having a forward enforcer who you can live without for 5 minutes to hold the other team accountable. Also coincidentally, the Oilers turned it around after adding Kassian, Maroon and Lucic. In fact, getting tougher was Chia-pets main focus to ensure that McDavid would have free reign to do whatever he wanted.
Having said all this, I doubt we will see Gazdic in a Flames jersey at all in the regular season. Gully does not believe in playing enforcers. So not sure why the uproar and like others who actually watch the AHL games have said, that is a very nasty league and brawls are very common. The Flames young prospects will need the protection in the lineup.
Honestly, the best thing the Flames could do is to convince Iggy to come back. He would instantly neutralize the Oiler's 3 stooges. Lucic won't fight Iggy out of respect, and Maroon and Kassian would fear the beating from a 40 year old. Plus Iggy could still contribute on the ice. It's too bad they can't mend this fence.

Well said i hope GG plays him against the Oil and Ducks all Luke will ever be is a goon. Most people dislike fighting but sometimes a team needs one.Look how the Pens overpayed for Reeves at the draft they got tired of players trying to hurt Crosby.

This thread is a huge EYEROLL . If Gadzic gets 1 game in the NHL I'll be stunned. If he gets 5 I'll eat pubes.
