Ladislav Smid would need a NHL contract if he wanted to mount a comeback. He does not currently have one.

Is 22 years old, four years after being drafted (non-college route), two seasons in the AHL already (although last year was an abbreviated one due to personal issues).
Would have thought he would be too old / too experienced for this.

I've seen Gaudreau, Kulak, Ferland, Lazar and Shinkaruk around today.

Maybe he'll be riding in the parade.
Smid has signed to play in the Czech league this year. I'm actually kind of surprised he's still in Canada (although, come to think of it, I think his wife is from Edmonton, which might explain it).

Stoked to see Lazar out there. Hopefully he's busting his hump to be primed for camp. I have high hopes for the guy. You could last year his conditioning was poo . Small gas tank for the games he did draw in. If he gets that up to snuff he will be just fine.

You're (and most CPers) probably aware but just to clarify - his "conditioning" was greatly affected by bout of mono last year; not from his work ethic. Like you, super excited for his future as a Flame, putting last year behind him and just continuing to evolve.

This isn't an official Flames ice time. It's whoever is in town. Smid is skating with these guys until he goes over seas.

Fully aware of the mono. Murders athletic conditioning. Props to the kid for bouncing back and getting in a few games.

I agree, good to see him making a big effort to get things back on track. The talent is there, he can still become an NHL player.

Ran into Kulak and Sieloff yesterday downtown at lunch. Kulak def seemed to put on some muscle over the past year imo.

Just not a guy I would have expected to be hanging out in Calgary.
