What an entirely stupid and irrelevant comparison.

Probably for the best as I think the 6th pick was the asking price.

That's ####ing great.

And then our season was nearly sewered by terrible goaltending and then ultimately ended because of terrible goaltending.

I'm surprised Treliving re-signed to be honest.

Essentially, there's speculation that Vegas could take up to 7 goaltenders in the expansion draft, keep one or two for themselves, and then trade the rest away for better assets than what was available on the expansion lists.

Like they could potentially pick Lack, Grubauer, Howard, Niemi, Varlamov, Fleuy and Dubnyk (for example) and then decide to keep Grubauer and trade the rest for a cheap backup and draft picks or whatever they can get.
That would be risky. Who would their trading partners be? It's looking like (I've just learned...) Calgary could be the only trading parter willing to give up assets, and for any of the mentioned goalies their original team would be a much cheaper trading partner for us.

My first thought as well.

We're lucky Treliving got decided to stay, I bet those negotiations were really interesting.

"Meddling owners" confirmed. Sigh.

It is entirely acceptable to spend money on talent

It should be completely unacceptable to spend money on players who actively lose the team games

Big whoop that Dallas is spending 13 million on goalies next year, they're already spending 10 and they'll win a lot more games by spending that little bit more.

I'd be willing to bet nearly every team has "meddling owners" that have killed a big deal or two in the past.

It's frustrating but not a problem unique to Calgary.

Since the Flames wont find a permanent solution to their net minder problem my hopes for this off season have adjusted.

I reckon that the Flames should make big moves to strengthen their blue line. I would like to see some trades or free agent signings that reflect their need to let in fewer goals. I think that average goal tending can be improved with great defence.

Spare no expense please.

Probably was #1 on his list of demands.

And to be entirely fair, Bishop didn't have a great season... but I can only imagine the season he'd have had with Sigalet.

Elliott was a good (is a good?) goalie, and most of us were very excited he was on board. I still think Elliott was a fantastic pickup, and who knows how our roster would have shaped out with Bishop's $2.25M more on the books.

Hindsight is 20/20, but I'm glad we didn't have Bishop.

What could possibly go wrong with that???
If you were a Stars fan, would you be happy going into next season with Niemi and Lehtonen? My guess is the Stars will expose both of them and pray...

With Vegas in the mix... this should be an incredible year of possibilities for us in goal.

Even if Bishop is off the list... Pittsburgh, Arizona, Washington, Rangers, Boston, Nashville and Carolina all have goalies they won't want to loose for nothing. When MAF, Smith, Lack, Grubauer, Saros, Raanta and Khudobin are the names in the mix you should be pretty happy.

Yeah, with the amount of goalies available, this is the year to get it right.

Saros is not in the mix (and Khudobin and Lack aren't that appealing, but I guess that part is subjective).

So now we end up with probably Elliott or MAF and can all wait on the edge of our seats for the inevitable breakdown in confidence leading to team deflating piss poor goals against. Hopefully its not in round 1 of the playoffs again leading to an embarrassing sweep.

No way Vegas touches either unless Dallas gives them something to entice them. I can't imagine any team stepping up and taking one of those two goalies, even if it were for 50% and free. This has buyout written all over it.

Can't Dallas just expose one of their goalies to waivers?

You think they're exposing Rinne, or just that there'd be a deal in the mix?

And agreed, Lack and Khudobin don't have me salivating but having them in the mix at least helps with negotiations.
