Apologies if already posted, but I thought this is pretty cool - Iggy keeping some darn fine company.

Edit - lol - I see it was mentioned above, now confirmed.

NHL Public Relations ✔ @PR_NHL
Per @EliasSports: Jarome Iginla of the @LAKings is the seventh player in NHL history to score 100 career game-winning goals. #LAKvsCGY

IIRC, Iginla has quite a few more "Gordie Howe Hat Tricks" than the great man himself. Maybe it's time to change the name to "Jarome Iginla Hat Tricks"

This attitude is genuinely sad to me... it sucks that so many people look at it this way and is the best argument (to me) as to why a team's greats shouldn't be traded towards the end of their careers, even if you can get a couple of picks and prospects for them... The Wings did it right with Yzerman.

How did you go from die hard to not really a fan? How did you become a fan in the first place? Interested to know. Thanks

I'm sure everyone is sick of my story.. but.

I grew up a Pavel Bure fan, not a Flames fan. Got into hockey in 2000 after 4-5 years of not caring. Jumped on board with the Flames Forever/Save the Flames campaign and was hooked. Same year I became a Yotes fan in case The Flames left town. Flames stayed and had a few terrible years (Clark Wilm top line anyone?)

-Coolers

-???

Got lucky getting seasons the Cup run year. Got out of college in 09 and moved down to AZ and just lost interest in The Flames. They were definitely a major part of my life for a few years though and I still like visiting here. Best hockey forum on earth in my opinion.

It was a much easier decision for the Wings to keep Yzerman because they didn't suck and the Flames did.

Apparently Iginla became the 7th player in NHL history last night with 100 game winning goals.

Quite the achievement, I dare say.
Still not good enough to be in the top 100. What a travesty.

The guy could do it all, and then score goals.

I think he should play hockey again for another year. The guy clearly isn't done. I think he wouldn't have trouble getting a contract if he signs on as a 3rd-4th liner for a contender.

Not related to Iginla's hockey ability, but man did he ever mess up Engelland last night. I was surprised. Engelleand is a tough customer.

Given that Howe only had two of them, it doesn't take much to beat him.

Fun facts about Gordie Howe hat tricks:
  • Rick Tocchet has the most, with 18
  • Brendan Shanahan and Brian Sutter are tied for second, with 17 each
  • The 1st known was achieved on December 22, 1920, 7.5 years before Gordie was born
  • Gordie had two, both against the Leafs
  • There have been two games with a Double Gordie Howe hat trick, where the two players fought each other. Tyutin/Getzlaf and Henrique/Iginla
  • Only once have two players on the same team both gotten a GHHT in the same game, accomplished by Thornton and Clowe against the Kings
  • Iginla is the active leader, with 11

I hope Iggy is not done. He still has game, maybe not a 20 goal top 6 guy, but he can be a contributor on a powerplay and be a decent veteran winger on a 3rd line.

My dream scenario is Brouwer gets selected by the Golden Knights, and the Flames sign Iggy and have him on the 3rd line with Bennett and Jankowski next year. Iggy also plays on the powerplay unit with Gaudreau feeding him one timers.

I still don't think the Flames have the right toughness. They have tough players, but I want to see more of what Iginla brings, that is a clear known threat of repurcussion if you go after our star player. Iggy always makes the other team aware that you don't touch his players. That Engelland hit on Kopitar wasn't even that rough, but it was enough for Iginla to drop the gloves.

I know Treliving and Burke have talked about how this team can play with the big teams now and cited the recent St. Louis game as an example. I'm still a little skeptical. I wouldn't have minded seeing a little more fire from the team in the 3rd period last night especially with the game out of hand. Brouwer, Bouma, Ferland should have been much more onery in the third. All 3 of these guys need to be front and centre over the next 5 games against big tough teams, and much more so if they end up playing the Oilers in the playoffs (all 3 were invisible in all 4 games against the Oilers this year).

Whenever Iginla does retire, the only good thing about that is this ridiculous nonsense will finally end.
my guess is that there are zero fans that would choose Iggy winning a SC over the Flames...

however, the majority would probably want Iggy to win the SC if its not Calgary...

As for the media stuff... not really much Iggy can do about it... he turned down any video tribute when he was asked, so its not his fault the media makes a big deal out of it.

Does that 11 include the most recent one vs Engelland?

He caught him with one that cut him that's about it.

In a fight (I'm sure he didn't want or need) Deryk speed bagged him to the head about 4-5 times in a row before Iggy tied him up along the boards.

It's great that he got credited with Gio's own goal, but it's fairly uncomfortable and sad to watch the current Ignla playing hockey.

This post trade "need" to be in a fight most games to be relevant is a bit hard to watch. Reminds me of the older guy in the pub that wants to arm wrestle anyone that walks by.

I hope he hangs them up.

My bet is he plays another season in LA. I'd certainly prefer to play almost 2/3rds of the season in southern California if i was him at this stage - and they are not short on talent either. He will be hoping its LA's turn in the LA-Chi-Pitt stanley cup carousel next year.

I'm not sure that's true.

Great goaltending, yes.
Solid blue line, yes.

Up front? Kopitar is not a 13 goal scorer and should bounce back next year. Beyond that?

Carter's year is likely an anomaly, but I suppose he could repeat.
Toffoli is the one younger forward that has promise.
What else? They haven't been able to score goals this year.

Lots of forward groups in the Western Conference that are far superior to LA IMO and that gap widens when you realize the style they play seems to be losing its effectiveness in today's NHL.

What? Jeff Carter has exactly 62 points in each of the last 3 years.

He has 5 games less to pass that mark. Seems like his season is exactly the same as always

Iginla has 7 ppoints in 13 games since being traded. That doesn't seem like a guy that is "done" to me.
