well, its too bad Bishop wasn't on the market for that price last summer!

considering we gave up a 2nd for Elliot, adding in a couple of players would have been pretty easy back then...

Lavoie also reporting that with this trade the Lightning now have the cap space to absorb the bonuses of Drouin, Vasilevsky, and Point instead of counting as bonus overages towards next season's salary cap.

Something the Flames need to do as well. So they'll at least look at getting this done by Wednesday.

Except nobody but Ryan Leslie is interested in Dennis Wideman.

With Tampa retaining some salary, this leaves LA with a little over $3 million in cap hit that they can add at the deadline.

Doubt its a big deal for the Flames. They've got enough space right now to cover pretty much all potential bonuses and I doubt Bennett is going to get all $2.3 million in bonuses anyways. Tkachuk only has $850k in bonuses.

LA cleaned up. I thought TB could get a better deal for Bishop

there obviously isn't much of a market for a rental goal tender

The Flames have 0 cap room. They're on pace to have negative.

Smid is on the LTIR which allows the Flames to exceed the cap, but that does not allow them to apply the bonuses.

This trade doesn't make any sense to me, Budaj has been a revelation for the Kings and Quick has come back.

The Kings still can't score and they look old and slow.

exactly... acquire him for a run and lose him (or quick) in the expansion draft... not surprised that this was the best they could do...

think Yzerman probably misplayed this one... would have gotten a better deal at last year's draft i'd guess.

re: Budaj.. I think it is obvious Lombardi thinks Budaj is Cinderella and the clock is about to strike midnight.

Playing defensively because of Budaj, now with Quick back expect them to open up a bit more and if Quick falters they have Bishop to hedge their bets. Also have several back-to-back games remaining. It's not like it cost them much if they don't do anything.

Goalies are funny, such a high price in the off-season (at least rumoured) as teams desperately need them to have a good season. But come deadline, the teams without a goalie are pretty much out of it (like Dallas for example) and won't give up anything.

some speculation that Quick isn't 100% yet too, so Bishop is an big insurance policy

I wonder what this trade says about the market for Marc-Andre Fleury. With all the circumstances around the Penguins' need to be rid of him, I imagine someone will get him for a song...

Like literally a song. Singing a song into the phone will complete the trade.

Fleury's gotta have severe negative value based on this trade.

I wonder if Rutherford screamed "FRACK" once he heard the Bishop trade.

The equivalent is the Flames trading Johnson, Dube, and the picks for Bishop. That's not bad at all, even if the Flames miss the playoffs

No team is going to do the Pens a favor and take a declining Fleury, especially a declining Fleury with a big dollar contract next year.

Fleury probably won't do the Pens a favor either, he's probably wants the buy out and opportunity to go wherever he wants to next year.

Yes, we are. Treliving already tried to trade for him in the summer, had permission to discuss an extension, before getting Elliott.

Bishop himself said so, that it wasn't "that close" and he "held all the cards" were his words i believe
