True.
But I also recall not that long ago, some people would criticize news outlets for being behind or not as fast as other networks.
Having instant information is consumer driven, and unfortunately so are most media outlets. It's difficult, if not impossible, to have a media outlet ruled by principles if money and viewership is their bottom line. You can have fast and you can have accurate, but you can't have both.

I certainly don't recall this at all.

Yep. This is what we get when we expect real-time reporting and minute-to-minute updates of stories. And when the traditional media in this country gives up the ghost, which is imminent, the accuracy of the reporting on these sorts of breaking stories will only get worse. Welcome to the future.

I remember it during the election on another forum (and maybe this one too).
Some people said they were tuning into CTV for the results because CBC was "too slow", even though CTV ended up reversing many of their riding projections.

The internet certainly allows false or misleading sources to travel much faster than previous, just as accurate and correct sources do. But even old time news was prone to it. i.e.: after the Frank Slide, it was widely reported that virtually the entire town was wiped out. Even though that was totally incorrect, the belief persists today

This whole thing is getting really confusing because the stories were that Bissonette was arrested at the bridge and the other gentlemen at the Mosque. So I'm assuming that Bissonette did his shooting and left before the police arrived and went to the bridge and called the cops, and the other arrest at the mosque was a witness.
But then we had a report of two more arrests.
This whole thing is so weird.

Why is a court clerk speaking to the press?
If she wasn't authorised to do so I'm guessing she could be an ex court clerk in the near future?

Am I crazy for thinking you're mocking the "he's white so mental illness; if he was brown, terrorism?" thing here? Or should I assume you're serious?

I think that news organizations could learn from the sports world. Bob Mackenzie has become the official source of when something is a done deal because he doesn't jump the gun.
A news organization needs to establish themselves as this conveyor of truth. It means being thoroughly disciplined not to jump the gun. I believe that there should be a financial payoff for being the credible source of journalism.
In Canada this should be the default position of the CBC. They should never break any breaking news type story.

That's a huge overstatement.
Most people who are in the media are interested in providing the public with accurate and balanced information.
I agree that there are some pressures that have unfortunately undermined some of this, at times, but to pain all the media "as scum who will do anything for views and attentions" is hyperbole and frankly offensive.

I was mocking the generic assumptions that the media is making without any supporting evidence.

See above. I was unfairly vague in my answer.

Where does one walk out and acquire an AK-47 in Canada?
(if it was that gun as reported)
