Little things here and there. Gibson outplaying Johnson, more overall aggression from the Ducks especially in front of the net. Say what you want about those goals, they don't happen unless you create and make use of those high traffic areas.

Interesting assessment. What do you think he has been doing so well? Tipping in goals? Whacking in rebounds? Dishing the puck? He hasn't had a point in nearly a month.

Interesting month of Dec. Though the team has made up ground in the standings, the played 6 teams above them in the srandings tthis month and after winning the first 2 (also the first 2 games of dec) have gone 0-4. Leaving them 2-4 vs teams above them in the standings.

Just last game against Colorado. Perfect screen in front. He nearly tips it as well. When I watched it live I was sure it was Chiasson's goal.

I'm honestly surprised to see the critiques of guys on the power play. They didn't score tonight, but this has been one of the hottest power plays for several weeks now, and they had a lot of shots on net and quality scoring chances tonight. I wouldn't want them to change anything, just bear down a little more when you have a chance to score.

Our PK would have been fine as well if not for the two missed interference calls.

I know the powerplay has been better of late but I simply don't understand why Brodie is on the 1st unit. IMO you need to have a defenseman that has a shot that scares penalty killers as nobody in this league is worried about Brodie shooting from the point.

They explained it last night. The 1st unit is more of a playmaking/passing group with all the best passers along with a net front presence and a sharpshooter in the slot. The other group is a more traditional shot-from-the-point/all shooters group. Both have very different strategies for scoring goals. This is actually pretty smart because the opposition has to prepare a penalty kill against two different strategies.

It's been working for Getzlaf for a decade!

I would rather Hamilton on the first unit regardless of the group because he's the best point man on the powerplay. As long as they can maintain their current pace of improvement I'm not going to campaign for changes but nights like last night it was tough to watch Brodie out there on the first unit.

No Brouwer, No Hamilton (Dougie), possibility of other players being under the weather. Johnson played well. Special teams failed. PP didn't convert and the PK didn't get it done. Not a difficult one to analyze.

Yeah, I will absolutely agree that this is a great screen on this PP, but when I was watching the game in person from that end of the rink, there was no doubt that it was Versteeg's goal.

While we are on the subject, Versteeg is a very important piece on this team. Very smart, has all the skills, veteran who can really help his younger teammates develop, just hope he can stay healthy.

I can't wait for someone to step up and replace Chiasson... Imo you can't really fault Johnson too much. Giordano cost them the game with a bad pinch then a careless stick penalty. The refs definitely have it in for the flames and I wish someone would just lay a beating on Kesler for continually going after Gaudreau .... either that or Johnny needs to accidently high stick him in the face a few times.. That might send a message. That's my rant... I feel better already

That horrendous pinch was Wideman.

Bit foggy last night but remember three things very clearly. Firstly that call on Ferland was absolute garbage and it changed the game completely. Secondly, Dennis Wideman was absolutely horrendous out there. He is slow in mind and body and is a detriment to the team. The only reason I can think of as to why he gets so much ice time may be that they're showcasing him, but it's having the opposite effect. Thirdly, the refs got a lot wrong. I mean a lot.

Really frustrating game because the Flames were the better team.

Monahan was a -12 in shot attempt differential last night. That's abysmal and confirms what my eyes told me.

I thought the Flames held their own for the most part. IMO would have been a different game if that 2-0 resulted in a goal.

I'm very sorry, Bear, but it is 2 Bears to 1. Majority wins.

I honestly don't. It's an expectation thing. If we are going to compete we need to be strong down the middle and I'm concerned Monahan will never be dynamic enough or compete hard enough to be a true no 1. Granted he's young but I don't see much, if any, progression in the last 2 years.

I'm likely overly hard on Monahan as my expectations for him were / are so high. He has the smarts, passing, shot and face-off skills to be elite. IMO if he doesn't find another gear compete wise he will fall short of being the guy we need to beat the top teams.

Definitely no axe to grind. He's a good young player and a great guy. I'm not going to shy away from criticizing him on here though. I will always try to do it in a fair and constructive manner which I think I did here.

FWIW, I'll be wearing his jersey to the game tomorrow. Though I may burn it in the car park afterwards if he's a negative Corsi at home to the Coyotes.
