3-1 for the good guys. Win or lose, if the effort is there, I cant complain.

That seems reasonable. Flames need to keep doing what is helping them win right now. Not the time to shake up the goaltending.
I had sort of pencilled this in as a potential start for Elliott based on the competition, but the Flames need to keep moving away from .500, and Johnson has shown he's the best bet for that.

At first glance I had also thought the same thing, but with how well Mike Smith is playing right now I think it is the right decision to offset that with Johnson.

Also, after tonight they only play 6 games in 18 nights, and two of them are back-to-backs where Elliott will get one of the starts, so it's not like there's a risk that they are wearing him out.

Did you have different expectations?

Yes I expected them to lose when Elliott was named the starter (even though he had a decent game)

A win tonight and a regulation loss from the Oilers would put us tied for first in our division. With some games in hand, granted, but still ... this season looked like a total write-off a month ago.

Amazing. I still think you need to get Elliott back on a roll too at some point.

Sure, if we're 4-5 games above .500
Until then, play it safe.

Remember when every year was the year we were going to play Kipper less and then we'd invariably have a bad start and rode him for 70+ games for yet another season?

The Oilers will have all of ONE game-in-hand on the Flames after tonight.

Yeah, but the backups were always way less than what Elliott can bring. I think he's been clearly the second best, but also the victim of some bad play in front of him and bad luck to boot. His last game was strong and he basically lost because Frolik busted his stick in OT. Befoer that he played great until the Flames took a 2 man penalty, plus another one right after (in one of which a guy lost his stick I think).

I have to agree the record for Elliott has a lot to do with the team.
