yup. this "we had to sign grossmann to reach the LTIR threshold" reminds me of "we HAD to sign Raymond to reach the cap floor!" argument. No situation ever forces you to make bad signings, that's entirely on the gm.

I wonder if he will still be able to be the cause of all of Brodie's errors while in Stockton?

You don't think leaving the team with salary cap wiggle room is "setting up a winning team"?

He's just upset about all the losing and looking for places to lay blame and vent.

Flames have contract space, and this has no cap implications so there is no reason to beat up on Treliving for adding a player who is decently young and was once a respectable player. Similar to the Setoguchi signing it was a no risk play that didn't pan out. Another vet on the farm team

I thought his signing and playing games this season was to be able to expose him to the expansion draft? if he is sent to the farm, i hope the rules will allow him to be taken and a necessary D position on the expansion draft exposed list, and allow us to protect one of the young guys.. ie Kulak?

Wouldn't he have needed a 2 year deal to be a factor in expansion?

Not when it results in Grossmann playing.

Let's see at the end of the season how much this wiggle room really mattered.

That's not how it works.

You can only protect 3 total defencemen (or more if you take the 8 total skaters option), anyone else who isn't exempt from the expansion draft can be taken.

The exposure rule requires a team to have at least one defenceman exposed who is signed for next season (which wasn't going to happen with Grossmann anyway) who has played a minimum number of NHL games over a specified period of time. The Vegas team isn't required to take the player who meets that minimum requirement, and the exposure requirement does nothing to protect any other players.

It's hockey. In terms of things that matter in my life it's down there with getting my anus bleached.

Haha. I doubt that seeing as you've taken time out of your life for 11 years now to post thousands of times on a hockey message board. Clearly it matters to you, and that's not a bad thing, but hey go ahead and act all aloof if that's what floats your boat.

Of course it matters.

Does it make me upset? Bleh. It is what it is.

Am I venting? Pfft. If I were venting I'd have been banned

It's the GM's job to make sure wiggle room is there in case it's needed, so waiting to see if it mattered or not is hindsight that he doesn't have.

His playing could have been Gulutzan's idea. Or it could have been part of the deal to get him to sign the deal to max out the cap space.

Still don't get the witch hunt you're on.

Good to see that the experiment is over. Hopefully the Flames braintrust realized during the Cali road trip that this whole truculence and big=good BS is pretty outdated. If you can't skate, size gets you nowhere in today's NHL.

So Treliving just shouldn't maximize the resources available to him? Treliving should just accept cap problems that could easily be fixed?

Comparing a 1 year, LEAGUE MINIMUM contract to the Feaster years?

Did you stop drinking recently? Maybe you should start back up again.

That's some awesome reading comprehension you've got there.

No, I didn't compare anything BT's done to brain-dead Feaster's era. If you would like me to rephrase it in a way you understand, try this:

The team is still being impacted by Feaster's moves.

Brad Treliving, the current GM, is doing his best to lessen those impacts.

But Dennis Wideman.

And drinking is fun.

And good grief, maximizing cap space is a thing again. Sigh.
