I treat these threads much like I do on Facebook. People who thank any post by Ricardow, RRR, etc, are just like my 'friends' on Facebook who Like and post Trump propaganda.
I mean, it just filters out the dummies that much faster..

It's hilarious that Dougie Hamilton gets criticized for his defensive zone play, when really he is no worse than Brodie or Giordano.
5v5 Last Season
Brodie
GA:57
Goals Against / 60 Minutes: 2.57
Shots Against / 60 Minutes: 27.39
Corsi Against / 60 Minutes: 54.86
Defensive Zone Face Off %: 33.3%
Opponent GF% Overall (Quality of Competition): 51.1%
Giordano
GA:69
Goals Against / 60 Minutes: 2.80
Shots Against / 60 Minutes: 27.45
Corsi Against / 60 Minutes: 54.53
Defensive Zone Face Off %: 34.2
Opponent GF% Overall (Quality of Competition): 51.3%
Hamilton
GA:56
Goals Against / 60 Minutes: 2.57
Shots Against / 60 Minutes: 29.64
Corsi Against / 60 Minutes: 58.97
Defensive Zone Face Off %: 32.7%
Opponent GF% Overall (Quality of Competition): 50.0%
I know most people don't understand these stats but what it shows is that Hamilton is really comparable defensively to Giordano and Brodie - or at least was last season.
Goal against per 60 minutes were similar, Giordano/Brodie had marginally worse zone starts and tougher matchups but overall it wasn't really that different. The area that showed the biggest different was shot suppression for Gio and Brodie but even that wasn't substantial.
Giordano and Brodie would also get the benefit of playing with each other for most of the season, where Hamilton bounced between Russell/Jokipakka/Smid and others last season.
Really the issue here isn't that Hamilton isn't that good in his own end - it's really that all three of Giordano, Brodie, and Hamilton are not that great defensively. All three ranked in the bottom 10 for GA per 60 minutes 5v5, which is to be expected when your team is last for GA but also points out that they may be part of the problem.

Those aren't individual stats that you posted. They are team-based stats, which don't really say too much about his specific play.

Sadly a defender doesn't take shots against his own net individually - so really the stats that the team has when he is on the ice are the best stats that you can go by.

What about the fact that Brodie and Gio both averaged 5 mins per game more in ice time? Or the fact that they would more often than not be lining up against the other teams best players? Not sure those stats really portray how good a player is defensively.

That is why you normalize for per 60 minutes.
Also why I included the defensive zone face offs and their quality of competition - which were both very similar.

Forget the stats can some of you just admit that you hate Dougie because he's a daywalker? Admit it, deep down in your black heart full of hate that's why.

How many times must i say i dont hate dougie. What i so hate is when he makes a blind pass up the middle and it gets taken back for a goal. I hate the way he has played this year.

Hamilton would have been even better if there wasn't such a mad scramble to get him off the ice whenever a legitimate top-6 forward came on the ice for the other team.

This is nonsense. What on earth are you talking about? When have there ever been any recorded instances of this consistently happening?

So who is a better NHL defenseman ?
Brad Richards or Dougie Hamilton
Brad Richards had 46 points one season playing the point in the PP. He did not get one vote for Norris trophy.

Remember during the off-season, when we all couldn't wait for the season to start and for Johnny to be signed, so the posting quality would go back up to its usual standards?
Look way up, well above the stars and the clouds. See that? That's rock bottom.
