As an amateur hockey historian, it pisses me off that so many - mostly Toronto - media are getting it wrong. But no, Matthews' four goals is not an NHL record in a debut. Both Joe Malone and Harry Hyland scored 5 in their NHL debuts. In 1917. Modern day record, yup. Greatest debut in 99 years? Yup. But not the most in NHL history.

To be fair, most media were saying modern day record, but as the night went on they dropped the modern day part.

That was a classic Karlsson game. Completely dominant whenever he's on the ice, other side has no answer for him, and yet the highlight package shows him having the puck stolen off him by Matthews for his 2nd goal, which is all anyone will pay any attention to.

If you weren't so busy looking to be offended, you might realize that he didn't say "Karlsson couldn't stop anybody". He said "The Sens couldn't". As in, a team of 20 players. And he's not wrong. Ottawa, as a team, barely beat the worst team in the NHL, and they did not look all that good in the process.

What an odd post. I can barely count on one hand any Swede's that I really disliked.
Ulf Sammuelsson.
Sure are alot more Canadians that are unfavorable to the common fan.

I and most Leaf fans love Swedes. Sundin is still my favourite player who's ever played for the Leafs.
Sens fans the same...Alfredsson?
