We'll probably need an "Around the League" on this one at some point.

It'll have to be a before and after though.

Before - he's great, what a pickup, love this guy.

After - he sucks, didn't want him anyway, the Flames made a bad move...

I think that's pretty fair point as well. Still feel the point remains.

Does anyone know where the "he's a jerk" and references to a character/attitude issue stem from?

This is a great addition. We badly need RW.

"Versteeg had to settle for a PTO and the Oilers would be wise to keep him around. He's a better passing, lower-scoring Eberle clone."

Shinkaruk didn't move his feet enough in the pre-season to earn a place on the NHL squad this season, let alone the top line. Versteeg could be our best option.

When Steeger brought the Cup to Lethbridge in summer of 2015 he held a public event for fans to get their picture taken with the cup. My son who was 6 at the time, said to Kris, "You should play for the Flames." Kris just laughed and said (paraphrasing) "it would be nice to place close to home, maybe someday, you never know." My son is totally going to love this.

I don't find it sad at all. He's a serviceable player. He belongs on a NHL roster. He keeps on finding work because he's useful. This year it happens to be on the Flames

His underlying numbers are actually fantastic based on what a low-risk signing this really is. Could turn out to be a really nice surprise here, especially with Gulutzan's new system.

Not a bad pick-up if the price is right. I don't think he is being brought in to play on top line. My guess he is coming in for bottom 6, probably 4th line. Pure speculation on my part but i see Bollig being sent down , Chiasson to the press box and Versteeg to fourth line .

I just hope he has some spark left in his legs as at one time he was a really good NHL player.
I've met him a couple of times. He was nice and good with my kids, but he still seemed arrogant. None of that says anything about what he is like in the dressing room, and he seems to have been well liked by guys I know who played with him in minor hockey. He does seem to be well liked around here.

If he doesn't work out on the top line, the bottom line looks good with him there.

For me, "character" is overrated when it comes to sports. If your teammates can tolerate you, that's good enough for me

Win hockey games

Just an example comparison, take it for what you will. His performance in previous years are fairly similar.
