So the entire first line all got letters? I thought that the point of having assistant captains was to have someone to talk to the refs on the ice when the captain was off.

You made the mistake of thinking things through.

Because he did so well as captain of Team North America?

Crosby (who was a month older). Of course, Sid already had back-to-back 100 point seasons, including 120 in 06/07 when he lead the entire NHL in scoring.
EDIT: I'm wrong, apparently it was Landeskog (beat out Crosby by 11 days). The point still stands though.

And the Pens had just had a decent PO run. I think it was announced at the end of that PO run, giving him (and the rest of the team) the whole off-season to deal with it as well, as opposed to just deciding right before the season.

Landiskog took the title from Crosby.

On the topic of captains, TheSportster had another one of their terrible lists, best and worst captains in the league. Gio came in at 5th worst and Doan 3rd best.

Oilers make McDavid the captain no surprise there. Afterall The NHL is pretty much anointing him the face of the NHL over Crosby, Ovy, Toews and pretty much everyone. The whole thing is laughable when you think of the long list of accomplished players around the league of Hart, Art Ross. Stanley Cup Captains and Asst's , Conn Smythe etc etc that actually have hardware to back up the hype.
Whatever have fun with your new Captain Edmonton. It was pretty much decided when they drafted him.

I'm more surprised that they only named three assistants this time around.

Landeskog, Crosby, and Lecavalier are the only other players to be named captains prior to their 20th birthdays. Only Lecavalier was under 20 during his first game as captain -- he was stripped of the "C" after one season, and didn't wear it again until 7 years later.

Alternate captains, not assistant captains. It irks me. Also, bahaha oilers.

McKinnon out shined McDavid as a leader at the tourny. McDavid came across as kind of whiney I thought.

I wonder if the players told McLellan not verbally, but physically, that McDavid should be the captain.

Never heard of the site before, but it's pretty awful. Has incorrect information about Gio.

If there is no good choice for captain, why name one right now? They could just have the 4 of them wearing A's.
