Agreed, Jankowski and Tkachuk are the two I'm most excited about. I do hope Parsons has a solid outing as well, I like his style (if he indeed starts).

I have no evidence to back this up but I feel like Poirier has just kind of struggled to adapt culturally. Sometimes this happens with French Canadian kids, particularly those that don't speak English well. I'm sure their are easier cities to adjust to than Glens Falls and Stockton. Maybe there's a trade to be made with the Habs. The rumour was that the Flames took him a bit early because people knew he wouldn't make it past the Habs in the first round.

Mangiapane is going to Stockton. He isn't the kind of prospect that's going to leap from the OHL to NHL. They want to get him seasoned and used to the pro game. But might as well keep him at camp first and get used to systems and learn things.
At this point it's fairly obvious by playing time/lines that Jankowski, Tkachuk and Shinkaruk are the 'fringe' forwards getting real consideraton at this point. And Wotherspoon on the back end with Kulak and Culkin possbly getting looks too.

I agree with that, but I was hoping that he would get a preseason game in Calgary. Gotta think there will be more cuts by the Sunday game.

Glad to see Jankowski is paired with a more skilled player (and though Klimchuk has had a rough go with injuries, he does have a high skill level and does play well in all 3 zones).
Higgins is in - that shouldn't be a surprise. I wouldn't assume it is because the Flames are really interested in him (they could be still, or they could not be). He played for the Canucks last, and he and his family still reside there. I would have assumed they had this game penciled-in for him - though perhaps I am reading too much into it.
I disagree slightly with the defensive pairings, though I guess it depends on what Gulutzan is going for. Kylington - Wideman and Wotherspoon Engelland.
I guess as an experienced (and say what you will) a successful vet that plays an offensive game, Wideman can help show the ropes to Kylington. Same can be said for Engelland and Wotherspoon, though speaking more about defence.
I think Wotherspoon - Wideman and Kylington - Engelland would be more 'functional' pairings, but I guess I think I know what Gulutzan is trying to accomplish here. I like that Wideman is a leader and isn't the type to keep things quiet, so I would imagine he will be talking to Kylington quite a bit about his tendencies. You may not like Wideman or what he brings to the team these days, but 2 seasons ago he did exceptionally well in both ends of the ice, and was always pinching and driving the play from the backend. Good mentor for Kylington, I would say.
I wonder what the organization's thoughts are on Jankowski at this time. There isn't a center spot available - Backlund will be back before the start of the season. Will the Flames insist that Jankowski remain as a center and get sent down to Stockton awaiting an injury to someone? Backlund - Bennett - Monahan are all young (Backlund at 26 being the senior), so I am not sure I can understand the point of keeping him in Stockton until there is room. I think he is ready for the NHL now, at least as a winger. I don't think the Flames will want to move on from Backlund when his contract expires, and I doubt Backlund will price himself out of the Flames either (though who knows).
Just find it really interesting what happens in the long term with a guy like Jankowski who is a 'complete center', within an organization very deep at center. I am thinking 4th line center isn't much of an option as playing less than 10 minutes a night wouldn't be very conducive to his development.

At least we won't have to hear Willis butcher Chiasson's name all night. Hope it's Rick and Ball tonight.

Jankowski wasnt ever in the Canucks plans and is still a question mark, so him doing well shouldnt really bother them much anymore than random Flames doing well.
Tkachuk on the other hand...

I'm going to hold back on my Jankowski feels and say that I my only hope is he plays better than former Flame Markus Granlund. If Granny can play for the Flames then Janko sure as heck can too.

Did you mean Shinkaruk? I hope Jankowski was never in the plans for the Canucks since he's never been a part of their organization.
