Yup Thursday or Friday for the first time. As soon as the thermostat goes below 21 I'm cranking that thing up. I'm cold all the time

Maybe people who need a higher thermostat temperature just have poorly insulated houses? Or bad circulation? My house is brutal. Thermostat set for 20, basement must be at least 5 degrees hotter and the bedrooms upstairs are way colder.

Central heating is one thing I really miss about Canada. Over the last few months the house gets down to 6-8 during the day while everyone is at work, and since our house is neatly tucked into a hill we get no sun at all in the winter. It takes about an hour or two to get a fire going and have it heat the house to a reasonable temperature. I honestly don't think we've had an indoor temperature over 16 in months.

Wait, wait, wait.

You live in a house in the side of a hill?

In New Zealand?

I just have a few questions. How tall are you? Ever heard of second breakfast? Is your front door round?

Have you tried closing some/all of the vents in the basement (all the way or partially)? Even partially close some of the upstairs ones and leave the bedroom ones all the way open.

I wish it was cool enough to turn the heat on. Still running the AC here (via heat pump). The last few days have felt mid-high 30's with the humidity. It's been a brutally humid summer here with very little rain. The nearby lake is down at least a foot or two and there are a few small ponds in the woods near me that are usually a few feet deep that have completely dried up. My vegetable garden has also suffered because I couldn't water them much for fear of running the well dry.

I can't wait for Fall/Winter.

I turned my AC on last night. House was 22, cooled it down to 19.5 for bed time. AC is the best upgrade I've made to my house.

Oh, and no, I haven't turned the heat on yet.

I have not turned the heat on yet but I came home last night and my wife had the gas fireplace going.

My parents in California keep the temp down to 76.

I'm banned from visiting them in warm months, the last time I was there in September I racked up a $600 electric bill from the AC.
