Theo Fleury accepted a PTO from the Flames in 2009. He had 4 points in in 4 preseason games and was released. Should we all get upset about that too?

Let Higgins have his PTO, he's looking to show one of 30 teams that he's still got it.

Get pissed when he has an actual contract. Until that happens...... Argue about Johnny or something

News Update

Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
Just chatted with #Flames GM Brad Treliving. He pointed out that Chris Higgins, who is coming to camp on PTO, can play both wings.

Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
Chris Higgins had multiple offers for PTO. Says #Flames were interested all summer, wants to be close to daughter, who will stay in Van.

Nothing quickly identifies which fans clearly have no clue like a thread announcing a PTO signing.

Actually yes I was pretty pissed at that.. Our team was crap and we had a bunch of crap players, he played great in the preseason and deserved a shot.

Remember when Amonte was exposed for a moment during a Flames TV locker room cam?

You'd lose a step or two skating around with that monster dong too.

http://www.calgarysun.com/2016/08/30...ssional-tryout

Quote:
The veteran forward had other tryout offers to mull over this summer, but there was continued contact from Calgary, and it was a priority for Higgins to be relatively close to his 16-month-old daughter, who will stay in Vancouver.

Higgins also has a history with Glen Gulutzan, an assistant with the Canucks for the past three winters and now the new skipper at the Saddledome.

“If you ask anybody, I’ve always said that I loved Calgary and I had a great time playing there,” Higgins said. “Besides last year, that was probably the most difficult year that I’d had in my career. I just wanted something new and fresh, and I went down to Florida ... But my thoughts on the city and the organization were all positive.”
Quote:
“Chris had a tough year in Vancouver. But prior to that, he was a good player, he was a productive player,” said Flames GM Brad Treliving. “There’s some versatility in his game, in terms of being able to play either wing. He’s a very good penalty-killer. And he’s an experienced guy. I know we get to the 30 age-mark and everybody starts to quiver a bit, but there’s still some hockey left in him. He’s going to come in and compete for a spot, and it’s always good to have competition in camp.

“You look at the year prior to last, he was an important player in Vancouver,” Treliving added. “I think when you really analyze last year, he suffered an injury early in the pre-season and never got his footing. There are some indicators — you look at his career shooting percentage, where it’s been (9.7%) as opposed to last year (5.9%). Obviously, there was a drop-off.

“Now, can he get back to the form he was at a year or two ago? If he can, then good for him and potentially good for us. So we’ll see.”

It's actually a pretty easy PTO for the Flames coaches to evaluate.
He stopped being a pretty decent player due to injuries. He clearly lost a step last year.
If he is 100% healthy he can certainly still play a role in this league.

I like that this is an avenue of analysis that the Flames are aware of. I wonder when they began thinking like this?

Shooting percentages? They've been openly tracked for a long time now. Hardly anything new or advanced about it.

Higgins can be a good place holder on the fourth line instead of plugging that spot with a young prospect who has more upside than a fourth line player (ie: Poirier, Jankowski, Mangiapane, etc.). We have a plethora of young talent that could play on the 4th line, but realistically they'd all be better served playing top 6 minutes in Stockton instead of 10 minutes a night on the 4th line. That's why I'm ok with this
