I don't think it's the question itself that people are responding to negatively as much as it is the timing of the new thread. Since the Monahan signing, the forum has been entirely focused on signing Johnny. One thread spiralled out of control discussing all things Johnny. Another one started showing signs of doing the same, and was promptly locked.
So of course, we got another Johnny thread. And of course, some people rolled their eyes to it, because FOI has been all Johnny all the time for a while now. Simple as that. Some people prefer discussion stay in one thread, others don't mind threads getting started about anything and everything. Some people get annoyed when conversation drifts off topic. Some people enjoy natural free flowing discussions that evolve. There's never going to be 100% consensus on how to approach these discussions. And sometimes people will be vocal about their disagreement. It happens.

I love Johnny, but surely you make that trade right now if its offered.
Giroux is signed for 4 years and elite.
Gostisbehere does not get paid big bucks until after Wideman is gone so he would fit long term.
A Philly first might be pretty high (top 15).

If we were going to trade Gaudreau, and that is pretty doubtful, it probably wouldn't involve a defenceman. We are already likely to lose Kevin in the expansion draft, it makes no sense to bring in a top 4 defenceman if it means we then have to expose Hamilton. If we did trade him it would need to be for another elite forward otherwise let him hold out.

But then logistically you're looking at a cloning machine first so each team gets a Gaudreau. You'd also want Oiler era Gretzky but no way would you want to see Gaudreau on the back of an Oilers jersey.
I'll take the 3 cups in 6 Blackhawk players.

Ghost would be completing his second pro season and thus not need protection though, unless I'm still misunderstanding these expansion rules.

I think Philly runs fast from that. For the next 5 years no way I'd rather have Gaudreau than that package. And no Philly isn't calling to beg and overpay. If he would ever be traded it would be 1 for 1 of someone similar.

At the same time, "this question is ridiculous" is a valid answer. And offering such a response is not the same thing as a topic holding no interest for the reader.
