It's tough when you've never really watched a guy and he's coming from another league like that.

Tkachuk's NHLe = 49 points over an 82 game NHL season
Shinkaruk's NHLe = 32 points over an 82 game NHL season
Pribyl's NHLe = 42 points over an 82 game NHL season

IMO Pribyl should be top ten on our prospect list. He put up a point per game season (as a 22/23 year old) in a league that is very similar in quality to the AHL (according to the NHLe).

It's not like Dallas didn't draft most of those guys in the 1st round either. Oleksiak and Honka were both first rounders. All of Calgary's best prospects are 2nd rounders, because all their 1st rounders are in the NHL. Kylington and Andersson are ahead of Lindell at the same time in their development too, but they aren't big like he is.

You usually have a point ricardo but you're just wrong here.

I didn't bring up Hamilton.... but I would like to hear from Timbit how he compares prospect Hamilton to Dallas 23 year old prospect Klingberg (5th round pick 2010)

Good points on Pribyl. I suspect he'll be 'punished' a bit in the CP rankings because none of us have likely seen him play beyond some youtube clips and because he is older than most of the other prospects. I think he'll start getting my votes some time around 9 or 10, assuming the other prospects I rank higher are all gone before that.

Personally I don't see how he could slip below about 12... but I guess we'll see in about 10 days.

#3 Julius Honka... same as Kylington straight from Draft to AHL where he put put 31 pts as an 18 year old..

#5 Esa Lindell

#6 Stephen Johs

#7 Jamie Olesiak

and their 5th best prospect was Jyrki Jokipakka.

They threw in their 5th best defense prospect for playoff rental Russell!!

Their 5th best prospect is penciled in as the Flames #4 or #5 best D in the organization.

Would Andersen , Hickey and/or Kylington break into the Star's top 4 defense prospects.... their top 10 prospects?
This is very logically muddled.

You're mixing "prospect" with NHL ready. You're using Jokkipakka as a bar against the flame prospects (omg... they didn't beat him out for the club last year so they must be worse!) while letting slide the fact that the players on the stars rated higher than jokkipakka didn't all beat him out either.

Took Poirier, this is his year to prove he can be an NHL player. I'll be thrilled if he cracks the lineup and plays well

Not sure why so much Hickey love? Is it because of development camp?

He took a bit of step back last year, much like Poirer. I'm also unsure why Shinkaruk isn't getting much love. He's only done well since being drafted and has a lot of potential and very good chance of at least reaching the NHL. I even suspect he makes the team this year

Hickey is probably the most boring of the 3 top D prospects, but I think he has the best odds of being a solid top 4 guy.

He's no slouch on offense / moving the puck. He may not be as smooth a skater as Kylington or as offensively aware as Anderssen, but I think he has more offensively to provide than people give him credit for.

Kylington's been probably the most intriguing prospect to me of the last two drafts.

Dug through Caged's 2nd half vid for every one of his shifts (#58 in white).

Shift 1 - Out of camera on faceoff
Shift 2 - Subbing in for Kanzig (#73)
Shift 3 - Remember when Engelland had that hellishly long 2-3 minute shift due to icing and being on the far side of the ice? Kylington soldiered on.
Shift 4
Shift 5 - 3 on 3
Shift 6 - 3 on 3 (spinnorama around Tuulola)

Oliver reminds me strongly of Erik Karlsson in the way he makes nice exits or passes out of the defensive zone even under pressure and multiple forecheckers, using that great vision of his - and also in the way he uses his skating to get out of trouble if caught up-ice.

In this video, Karlsson is beat by all three Sharks forwards. With his incredible skating however, he is able to make it back in position to take his guy. Kylington has acceleration and top end speed very reminiscent of his countryman Norris-winner. I see similarities in their strides as well.

The Flames currently have their top 3 set for the next few years. This gives Calgary the leisure of being able to let Kylington ripen to their schedule rather than forcing him into the lineup early like the Oilers.

Will be following his performance next year very closely. I'm not terribly concerned over his offensive production in the AHL either:

Giordano's 1st professional season: 20 yrs old, 66GP - 6g 10a 16p
Kylington's 1st professional season: 19 yrs old, 47GP - 5g 7a 12p

Also, NHL 14 seems to think he hits like Shea Weber. Yay.

Kylington was 18 years old. Didn't turn 19 until May, well after this season ended.

Well that settles it. Giordano is obviously going to be a bust.

It's because he's a great skater, has NHL size, thinks the game better than any of our other defensive prospects, and displays the poise you look for in a defenseman that can handle big minutes.

I didn't see Hickey take a step backward last year. Only people who track development by comparing points each season think that. Hickey was solid in his own zone which was the area he needed most improvement.

What's with this Shinkaruk stuff? We've voted on the top four prospects so far, and it was unlikely Shinkaruk was going to shake out in that group. Considering his size and the fact that he is already on his 2nd NHL team it isn't surprising he hasn't popped up on radar. He'll likely be in the top 10, the late part of the top 10. More than that would be surprising. It would also be very surprising if he made the team this year. The Flames have brought in guys with size and are trying to beef up the lineup. Going to be a reach for a small player to earn a spot, especially with Tkachuk possibly making the team. Shinkaruk is going to have to blow people's minds in camp to make the team.

Wait, what are we talking about? The thread title seems to be referencing Calgary Flames prospects, but for some reason I'm reading about comparing Dougie Hamilton and Jamie Oleksiak?

Did we make another trade? Hamilton for Oleksiak and a time machine?

Just a note, offensively prior to be drafted, Kylington outperformed Erik Karlsson. In his draft -1 year, Kylington was exactly a PPG player in the super elite league (junior) in Sweden. He played most of his draft year in the men's leagues (SHL and Allsvenskan). In the SHL, he had 5 points in 18 games in his draft year.

In his draft year Karlsson was a PPG player in that same level junior level that Kylington played in his draft -1 year. Karlsson played his draft +1 year in the SHL primarily getting 10 points in 45 games for a significantly lower PPG rate.

Then when Karlsson came over in his draft +2 year, he put up 11 assists in 12 AHL games, and 26 points in 60 NHL games.

Kylington has led him to this point. We will see if he too can force himself onto the NHL roster and if he does, what kind of performance we will see.

I wouldn't be shocked if his career mirrors Karlsson as they play the game in a very similar manner. Just have to wait and see, but it is evident that he does have that as his peak upside.
