I would have loved to keep him here for that much. I guess BT just really didn't see a good fit. Too bad, I really liked Colborne. Good luck Joe!

These little deals are what win championships. Bryan Rust helped the Pens win the Cup this year. You've let Byron, Colborne, and maybe Nakladal go, and replaced them with 4.5 million dollars of Troy Brouwer and 3 million of Deryk Engelland. You're good at trades, Brad, but your signings need some work.
It seems clear the Flames didn't see him as part of the core or a guy that was going to be key in improvement. Which is how a lot of people viewed him until his hot streak. This says to me that the Flames didn't view that streak as sustainable.

not a terrible contract, but once Flames signed Brouwer it wasn't possible to sign colborne.. gotta assume 13-14 for johnny and Monahan... Nakladal and wotherspoon are still without contracts...

lower than i expected, but i think Brouwer is going to help us out more.

no way was colborne going to duplicate an 18% shooting percentage this year

Head scratcher. A 2 year 2.5 aav. Definitely would have resigned him for that. Not sure what Brad's thinking. Good luck Joe , guess we'll see if this was a mistake or not next year.

Told Colborne had other options for more money, but sees his opportunity with the Avalanche as his best fit.

He's thinking they want to get tougher, be harder to play against and wanted a player like Brouwer who doesn't play uninterested most of the time.

don't think its about the money, its about fitting the mould of the kind of player Brad wants.

The person will be missed but he was a player without a role. Not physical enough and not consistent enough to be in top 6. He looked like he could break out as he played great in the playoffs against the nucks but obviously flames staff did not feel the same way. Hoping his role on the 3rd line can be replaced by a ferland/chiasson.

Pretty much the way that management was talking about him after the season, this was already decided. I'm mixed on this one, think he could bring some of his size for puck possession and to generate opportunities but didn't do a lot of dirty work when needed.

With Brouwer around and IF Chiasson can get his game back a little bit, people won't even remember Colborne.

When Chiasson was signed, the writing was on the wall. When Brouwer was signed the ink was dry.

Yeah, Colborne at 2.5/2 is a good contract but you can't just have all the middle-six wingers. He was redundant. Brouwer is better and Chiasson easily could be. Time to move on.

For all we know that could be as little as a few hundred thousand. Either way I'm glad he isn't on the Flames but Calgary will miss him. He did great charity work for this city and likely will continue to do so after he's done hockey.

But I'm very happy he's no longer a Flame.

I just don't think there was a great fit there. The Flames already have enough centres and need right wingers, not lefties. Especially if Tkachuk makes a push for a spot. Just don't think there was anywhere for Joe to go. Not a huge loss to me, hope he does well with the Avs.

You know it be's that way sometimes, pappi. Oh well. Brouwer is thrice the competitor. Happy with Troy here.

It's not $5M per.

Avalanche media guy:
@MikeChambers
Joe Colborne deal: two-years, $2.5M per; Fedor Tyutin: one-year, $2M #Avs

Colborne was junk. I'm glad Brad realized he wasn't worth the money. Would be Bouma 2.0.
