I do wonder if the Flames would want to look at a AHL veteran type guy. IF a goalie gets hurt you've got Gillies who's played about 200 minutes as a pro and some guy who's never played in North America. Some Peter Budaj type guy.

Another great signing. BT is rocking it today!! Goalie situation is going to be so much more confidence inspiring next year.

One of the two UFA goalies I was interested in if we hadn't gone the trade route, but we got him anyways. Nice move but I could still see us signing Ortio to a two way contract and assigning him to random AHL team as our third goalie. I wouldn't want to rely on Gillies or Rittich yet if we run into injury problems.

Now, if we can move Wideman, there might be room to re-sign Colborne.

The term is puzzling as we have to expose a goalie for expansion. Maybe they bring Ortio back on a 2 year 2 way deal?

Maybe we see how they play (not to mention Gilles) before extending them?

I love it!

The front office has done a bang up job this off season. They've put the pieces in place, now it's time for the guys to perform.

Love it. So excited for solid goaltending again. Best starter since Kipper and best backup since... Turek?

Thanks to Brad? Brad is responsible for both of these situations. Thanks Brad for fixing your horrible mistake.

With the Johnson signing I think Ortio goes back to finland.

Very calculated signing. We have both goalies on one year contracts and Gilles that should be ready in one year. It also gives us the flexibility to sign or trade goalies from other teams for cheap closer to the expansion draft when teams get more desperate. If all else fails we also have the ability to sign Ben Bishop in UFA without giving any assets when we will have a ton of cap space by then due to expiring contracts.

Every person in here that grew up playing hockey (and even those that didn't) knows that we lost multiple games last year because the amount of softies our goalie's gave up at terrible moments.

It takes a huge emotional toll on a team when you're playing your arse off and your goalie undoes it all in one second. That "here we go again" creeps into your psyche and it's over.

It can't be understated what a huge upgrade our Flames have made to help our goal tending situation this offseason.

I doubt Gillies will be ready next season, but only time will tell for sure.
