There's the Chart Hut, that's on third. There's Charts-R-Us, that's on third too. Swing Low, Sweet Chart... Matter of fact, they're all in the same complex; it's the chart complex on third.

Does anyone think there is a possibility of getting Nichuskin out of Dallas? Had a down season last year, I feel like I've heard rumblings he's out-of-favour. 21 years old, right wing...
Other thank that, Backes, Eriksson, and Okposo would probably be the guys I'd want us to go after in free agency. Lucic would be interesting but ... there's just something about him that I don't like. He'd probably put up 75-80 points on a line with Gaudreau though.

I'd take Nichushkin, but only if the return was ONE, and only ONE of our remaining 2nd rounders.
If Dallas is moving him at this point, it's likely as a sweetener to dump one of their goalies.
Those Dallas goalies I do not want! Even before Elliot!

Someone mentioned Wideman for Iginla. I've been against trying to bring Iginla back but things have changed. I think the main reason Iginla wanted out was he didn't get along with Hartley. No proof, I just watched the way Hartley used him. Now I think he'd be more useful for us than Wideman if he'd be okay with playing third or so line minutes and play alongside Bennett or if needed with Monahan.
Right now, thanks to Elliott's contract I figure we have $2M in cap space this season. We can buy out Raymond and gain another $1.15M. The big fly in the ointment is Smed. Is he healthy, okay trade or buy him out. If not he goes on LTI but that only happens after training camp is over. So to start we need to use his salary as part of our cap in our initial declaration and than put him on LTI. We would than need to send some players down or on waivers to get under and than use Smid's savings.
I don't see this happening but if we needed to, buying out Wideman would also save us $4M this season. I also think Jooris' days are numbered and probably replaced by a bit cheaper prospect.

I think they try hard for Lucic but if bit him then maybe Backes or Okposo. Then I think one of Perron, Hayes, Nisch or another RFA.
I don't know why people would want Brower...I just don't get the love for old grinders. I mean if the flames really wanted someone like that then they could have got Clarkson and probably moved up to 3 for taking him.
This team needs skilled wingers

assuming Tkachuk makes the team and Smid goes to LTIR:
Code:
????? Gaudreau - ????? Monahan -
0.925 Tkachuk - 0.925 Bennett - 4.300 Frolik
????? Colborne - 3.575 Backlund - 0.863 Shinkaruk
0.825 Ferland - 3.125 Stajan - 2.200 Bouma
1.250 Bollig - 3.000 Raymond
6.750 Giordano - 4.650 Brodie
5.750 Hamilton - 0.900 Jokipakka
5.250 Wideman - 2.917 Engelland
????? Nakladal
2.500 Elliott - ????? Ortio
that's around 49.7m tied to players under contract, which leaves around 24m for Gaudreau, Monahan, Colborne, a 7th defenseman and a backup goalie. All in all, I think we have 19m to 19.5m for Gaudreau, Monahan and a UFA winger ... and that's without getting rid of a bad contract. If he can somehow get rid of Wideman or Raymond, then signing a UFA winger like Lucic, Backes or Okposo would certainly be doable.

Call me weird, but I hope the Flames don't sign any of the notable UFAs. If there is an upgrade in net (backup), and if the Flames don't like Ortio any longer, than that is about all the moves I want to see.
Poirier, Jankowski, Pribyl - all guys that can possibly fill the top 6 wing spots long-term.
Colborne has disappeared off a lot of lists lately as well. I am actually really eager to see him back with Backlund and Frolik - that line provided a lot of heavy lifting down the stretch, and I am wanting to see if they can repeat it, if not improve.
UFAs just almost always cost so much. I would rather wait until training camp, and look who is left available that needs a one year show me contract. Bargain-bin depth signings.
Brouwer, Lucic, Okposo - they all have their warts, and these warts will be magnified at a high dollar figure on a long term deal (and they will each get it).
Just stay the course and see what becomes available. Cap space is important, and teams often have to make a move mid-season due to injuries or out of some other need, and having that cap space helps capitalize on potential bargain trades.

Iginla is done. The Flames need to start voiding themselves of bad contracts, not bringing more in. Even if it is a swap of Wideman for Iginla that is a horrible trade for the Flames. Iginla has turned into a PP specialist. 13 of his 22 goals came on the PP. Iginla is too slow to play on one of the top lines here. He's too defensively irresponsible to be on the lower lines. His spectacular -22 was 13 goals against worse than Blake Comeau! Iggy is the ultimate one way player who cherry picks and leaves the zone early in an attempt to pad his stats. Colorado couldn't find a place to hide Iginla where he didn't hurt the team. Wideman is a disaster for the Flames, but he is still a guy that can sort of play in the NHL. Iginla is living off his reputation, and that has taken a beating the past couple of years. Let him ride off into the sunset in Colorado and let the Flames move on.

Colton Sceviour could be an ok option without giving up big money or term. Alberta player as well. Could be a 40 point player in the right situation
