It's not just you IMO - the guy put up average numbers behind a great defense on a team committed to defensive hockey.

I know I've been spamming this chart across the forum but when looking at 5 v 5 stats over the last couple seasons then Andersen is closer to Ramo than he is to an elite #1 like Price.

IMO it would have been a mistake to give up two decent picks, and then commit 5 years and $25- $30 million to the guy.

I would much rather give up assets for a more unproven goalie with the potential to be elite, then the guy who is a starter but has proven to be an average one.

$5.75M for a proven starting goalie for the next three years isn't too bad. Andersen is going to get re-signed to around that, I bet.

Is Andersson a NHL #1 goalie? Yes, but how good of a #1 goalie is he really? Is he a much better option than Karri Ramo?

Can we just start calling bad contracts "crap hits"

54 games in 2014/15 and 43 in 2015/16 while missing 11 games with Illness/injury and started all but 2 playoff games over those 2 seasons. He was clearly their starter. Talbot had 1 great season and there were alot more question marks about him because of that.

I would never call Ramo an NHL starting goalie. So yes I would say is is very clearly a much better option than Karri Ramo.

Glad this has happened, getting the Leafs off the table. Not a crazy price or anything, but very glad the Flames didn't pay it.

IMO, Fleury would have to cost less, though we'll see shortly what Anderson signs for.

Would still rather sign Reimer and use the 2nds on Puljujarvi than go after Fleury. Kuemper still potentially on the table as well.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if some media folks start bringing up speculation regarding Bernier to Calgary. There were the reports last season that Calgary was possibly scouting him.

Our two late seconds should be plenty for MAF now. I'm happy, wonder if they would take Raymond as well?

Well, Pittsburgh is all about speed... maybe he fits in their system?

One can only hope.

Re: Andersen's advanced stats - they're kind of up in the air as he's a younger goalie, I think only a year older than Ortio.

Re: Cost of payment on Andersen - maybe it's fair - for Toronto. I don't think it would have been as fair for us as for us that an in-division trade and the risk of those draft picks panning out as a Richard Rakell or Corey Perry would weigh more heavily. More importantly we dodged the cost of actually paying his salary. Can't commit term to a goalie before the rest of your team is set to compete.

I shall close with this goal on Frederik Andersen:

Over at HFboards the Pens fans didn't seem opposed to the idea for whatever that is worth.

Anyone got any guess on Anderssons contract? 5 years is a long time.

If the Flames acquire a young goalie like Mrazek then I could see them re-signing Ramo or trading for Bernier. If they go the Fleury route then I bet on Ortio being the backup

Looking at their respective results from the past two season, factoring in the teams for which they have played, and judging from the chart that SuperMatt 18 keeps spamming the site with, I disagree. I think Andersson is probably a slight upgrade over Ramo, but not by much. He has proven to be a competent starter capable of playing 50 games in a season, but I don't see much in his body of work to suggest that he is a potential high end NHL starting goalie.

I'd do a Stajan for Bernier deal. At this point, I don't think I'd even trade Raymond for Bernier if we're targeting Fleury.

Lou just said Andersen has to know he is their #1 right now.

If Bernier hasn't asked for trade, he will.
