I guess this all depends on who we get to replace Hartley.
We also saw what he did with a team that was expected to achieve and with Kiprusoff in net.

It's not just one bad season.

I'll hold judgment to see who the Flame replacement is however I believe Hartley earned another year.

Is compensation for hiring a fired coach still a thing? Is there a chance we get a draft pick out of this?

Thanks for the work ethic and the #neverquit we saw from the boys last year, Hartley. But the performance this season was horrible and it wasn't just one thing.. The easiest thing to do is fire the coach. If Boudreau got a phone call and he showed interest then it's just the hockey business.

I loved Bob, I really did. The team worked for him and they were exciting. However, in my opinion he didn't make on ice adjustments and he seemed to avoid making personnel decisions on the ice that appeared to be painfully obvious.

I figured that since they werent fired at the end of the season that they were being given another year, so it seems to me that Treliving was waiting until 'his guy' became available which by all accounts appears to be Boudreau.

If the coach isn't in your plans going forward, then make the move and bring in the guy you want.

Rarely happens though. So again, respect to Treliving.
So true. I remember when Hitchcock was available for over a year.

Actually, I seem to remember reading something last year that affirmed this.

Holy f'ing crap. Did not see that coming. Not one bit.

I'm sad to see Hartley go. I genuinely like the guy and he seemed to do what was best for the team. He is directly responsible for the culture change that took place after the country club atmosphere that was prevalent here for so long. And he was at the helm for one of the funnest season in Flames memory. I'm going to miss the guy.

On the other hand, how awesome is it to have a GM like BT take advantage of a situation and not be afraid to make changes for the betterment of the club. I kind of figured Hartley would be gone by December if the team wasn't playing up to par. But looks like we will get that head start.

I've heard this as well.

Not that a coach has to be liked to be a success but, as a coach, if you aren't liked, you need a real iron fist which doesn't always work in the long run.

They have brought this up multiple times.

Implying the guys were intentionally disrespecting him.

Perfect. I always trust Treliving has done his due diligence on every move, and has a plan.

I liked Hartley, but our style of play was not the right one.

In one of his most recent interviews Treliving stated there were certain parts of the game that he didn't like.

I can't find it as I'm at work but I think it was foreshadowing this.

Surprised, yes. Upset, no.

Treliving is very methodical and would have been analyzing this for some time.
Plus you've got to wonder if Bruce is great for a younger room too. I get that most coaches have a Shelf life but Bruce's has seemed a bit short lately.

You can put me in the minority camp that does not like this move at all. Guy is one year removed from a Jack Adams and the goalie cluster#### at the beginning of the year was the GM's fault more than his. Guys like Gio, Brodie, Monahan, Gaudreau, Backlund, Bouma all had career years under Bob. The 2014/2015 team doesn't get the the playoffs without Hartley at the helm. He earned one more year to see what he could accomplish with a competent goaltender and new PP structure. Boudreau is a good coach but has had no real big success with stacked Washington and Anaheim teams. I'd love to eat some crow next year but I don't see this as an upgrade, assuming he signs here.
