Tkachuk doesn't seem to have as much of a ceiling. His game resembles guys like Saad, Ladd and Landeskog. Tkachuk is a "quality role player with the ability to play top line" rather than a player you want to be spending an asset like a 5th/6th/7th OA on.
Dubois OTOH seems to have the ceiling of a both-ways-beast. His game resembles guys like Benn, Bergeron, and our own Sam Bennett. Dubois is a line driving skilled forward with top-tier compete level, and some belligerence to his game. A X-Bennett-Dubois line has potential to become our top line, which would only open up the game for Johnny and Monny.
I think Tkachuk is a "third wheel" on a top line, Dubois is a 1A/1B. I don't want to draft a third wheel with a top 7 pick. I want to draft a 1A/1B. After watching Jost yesterday I'm becoming a believer in him, too.
Is acquiring a third wheel still important? Yes, that's what the entire rest of the draft is for. In fact that's what the AHL and farm team are for, for developing guys like Shinkaruk, Poirier, Klimchuk, Mangiapane, Pollock, etc to be potential third wheels. You develop your role players, you don't come across stars half as easily. Your Killorns, your Tanner Pearsons, your Lehteras... you have way more opportunities to acquire role players. You just have to develop them.

When I watch the youtube videos of all the prospects, I see him as being at the upper echelon of the skill spectrum, right up there with the top 3. He seems to have everything you want in a franchise type defenceman.
Does he have poor character or is his defensive play (which isn't always shown on youtube videos) really poor?

The deal with Sergachev is he's Russian. This year's Ivan Provorov... the best D prospect available but he's Russian. Hanifin/Chychrun had hype coming into the season. Juolevi got hyped from a great World Juniors on a stacked roster despite being pedestrian in the CHL.
