Missed the 2nd half of the game. Saw that Shinkaruk had a good game. How about Poirier?

I liked his game, he was physical and battled to the right spots on the ice and had a couple of solid chances. His skating style is still weird but he gets where he's going with a lot of speed.

Poirier was decent. You could see his speed on the forecheck a few times, and he did get open for a one-timer only to have his stick checked at the very last moment. If it weren't for that, I'm sure many on here would be singing his praises more than Shinkaurak.

That said, two plays stood out to me yesterday. Bennett leveling someone while standing still. They guy just flopped over. Made me laugh. And Shinkaurak crushing Domi, basically making him fall on his face. I was not expecting that at all.

Shinkaruk was pleasantly surprising. Unlike guys like Baertschi or Granlund, other skilled players of his below average size, he has excellent speed, agility and skating. He was a lot more physical than I was expecting and threw his body around with abandon.

Poirier I thought looked a lot better than in previous recalls. His skating is deceptive but he covers a lot of ground. I definitely saw a lot of positive signs, I think he'll be an NHLer at some point within the next year. He was significantly ahead of a guy like Agostino IMO.

Grant didn't show too much offence IMO but I love his size, face-offs, board work, etc. Hopefully we re-sign him, he really should win a role ahead of Stajan but I'm not sure how the Flames are going to work that.

Kulak didn't look out of place. Great moment in the 3rd when he walked from the line right up into the slot and got off a good shot. As Bingo mentioned in his writeup the depth guys seem to be pushing Wideman and Smid right off the team. It'll be interesting to see how that is handled, I think Wideman is traded but I'm not sure what can be done with Smid.
Agree on Poirier - I thought he looked like he belongs (or is close). The speed is there, the strength is there, and we know he has the shot.

The one thing getting in his way still is that he is so focused on doing what the coach says and being in the right spot. It is hampering his offense, but he'll work through that as he gains some confidence. Shame he didn't hit that one-timer, it probably would have really helped him.

Losses be dammed I could care less about the 1st overall anymore we all know it'll end up in Toronto to kick start the centennial year for them haha.

I'd rather build a winning culture with the young kids then instill a losing attitude for the last handful of games.

Such a stupid trade.

Hunter is looking amazing.
Good thing we have Granlund!

Shinkaruk just destroyed Domi.
Meanwhile we'll be waving Granlund next season...

Hunter has looked better in one game than all the games Granlund has played for us.

Makes me feel sick watching Shinkaruk on the Flames.

Shinkaruk's like that girl you went out with once then broke it off with and now she's smoking hot and you have hella regrets cause you're single and can't score anymore

It makes sense now. Benning traded Shinkaruk to Calgary to make them better so we could out tank them.

This I think just made my day.

I really like Grant, very headsy player with better than expected skill. I honestly see no way he cannot be on this team next year. BT has to make that happen.

Shinkaruk impressed me, played with a lot of jam. Loved his battle in the corner with a much larger Hanzal. Question is, can he maintain that consistency.

Kulak looked good as well. Just seems to be a smart hockey player out there that reads the play very well.

I have never understood the hate on here for Engelland. The guy does his job and I think he has been excellent this year, really stepped up his game being paired with Giordano or Brodie. Loved him rag dolling Sekac last night. Also completing ignoring Richardson who was trying to get into his face.

What a gritty game. Part of me wants them to tank but then I see a game like that and I'm hopeful for our future. They just need more consistency. Bennett was a beast and Monahan might just might be Toews v2.

Is there enough grit, tenacity, and desire now to break the Honda center curse on Wednesday or will Rickard Rakell have his way with us?

I liked how they went through the various ways Grant will win a faceoff. All kinds of different techniques. Way more 'legal' than Boyd Gordon's style as well
